With Season 5 of the critically acclaimed series fast approaching, I am wondering who else is excited.

Ive been re-watching season 4 and now Im wondering if they will do a time skip of one year in the series.

I'm definitely looking forward to the new season. I'm just curious as to how much this long hiatus is going to impact ratings. This season better be awesome if they want any hope of having more seasons in the future.

If you don't enjoy people demeaning women then you must really hate 90% of the characters of Mad Men.

In the show, its all about context so Im fine with it. In real life, dont demean women.

I'm not sure what you mean, it's not like whenever they demean women on the show the context of the scene makes it somehow less demeaning. I remember someone seeing Peggy succeed early in the first season and they literally said "It's like watching a dog use a typewriter" or something.

I'm not saying it's ok to demean women, but pretty much every male character on the series has done so several times. Don, for example, actually treats the women in his life like absolute shit. The only exceptions are his daughter Sally and his friend Anna.

Though I'm still concerned about the long hiatus effecting ratings.

I think a major theme for this episode was miscommunication and misunderstanding.

No the theme for this episode was how much it sucks getting older: to wit: Don hates his birthday cause it reminds him how old he is and then he goes to bed right after the party cause he is tired even tho his young hot girlfriend still wants to stay up, Joan is grumpy because she has turned into a stereotypical housewife and she misses being the queen bee of the company and has a breakdown right in Price's office and having people depend on her and respect her(unlike her mother in law)

Of course there is also another theme about people wanting respect from the black people protesting to Vincent wanting a new better looking office to Joan wanting to make sure she was still wanted at the company, Don's new girlfriend wants to be respected too at least in the office.

Also i felt like the show took a while to get back into it's groove, especially after the long layoff.
I can pretty much say that Mad Men for me is at its best when it focuses on the personal and stays away from the politics of the 60's which frankly to me has been done to death by so many movies and tv shows.
although i do understand that they can't completely ignore all the cultural changes that happened back then, but it has to be done in a very careful manner where it feels personal and not preachy unlike shows like "the 60's" or movies like Forrest Gump which tend to look at that decade from very heavy handed forced point of view.

But the show really got rolling once Roger came into the picture his smarmy charm and his one liners and his knack for being able to say whatever the hell he wants and getting away with it is hilarious and brilliant and with all the characters on this show angsting or worrying about things in life it's nice to have one person who doesn't seem to worry about anything and is just there to have fun and enjoy life.

The surprise birthday party for Don was brilliant i think it showcases how much he usually hates being reminded of all the lies he has built around himself cause i find it hard to believe he never celebrated a birthday before but the reason he was upset was because it reminded him that this was not his real birthday but someone else's that he took.

I've never really been a fan of "one year later" tropes in any sort of medium because even if it has been one year there is always a strange disconnect seeing all these changes the characters have gone thru but not being there to actually see them.

It was probably a smart movie to make this a one hour episode since the fans have been waiting so long and they had so much ground to cover.
