UPDATE: I SPOKE TOO SOON. SCARLET SPIDER IS NOW UP AT COMIXOLOGY!
Agreed; I have an IPad and love the Marvel app but Marvel will need to make their app (and not just comixology)available on other tablet devices if they want to reach the masses as these devices are quickly gaining in popularity.

Not anytime soon. As much as I'd love one, it's just not in my price range right now, and the Kindle Fire meets my comic-reading needs pretty well.

Yep, though to be fair, that appears to a limitation of the Kindle and not one on their side.

At any rate, I'm happy to eat crow and say:

SCARLET SPIDER IS NOW UP ON COMIXOLOGY!!

If he has a decent role in the AVX event it will help.

Er, isn't the book doing well? A little early for this thread.

(And that's ignoring the bad ideas.)

If this were Ben as Scarlet Spider again, I'd love throwing him onto a team (even The Avengers) but I think for Kaine, it's better than he stays solo for a while to prove himself and make it on his own as a hero.

Right now, SCARLET SPIDER is tracking HIGHER than THE DEFENDERS. (Unlike, say, making Venom a member of the Secret Avengers-- which is tracking higher than his book.)
A move like this could alienate the current SCARLET SPIDER fan base who enjoy the character as a rogue/outsider/rebel and might not like having other characters shoehorned into the book-- or into Kaine's life.

How are either of these things "draws" to new readers? Making him an agent of an agency-- especially one that WAS popular during DARK REIGN and one that hasn't been popular for longer-- doesn't really add to the mix. And, again, makes the loner character (part of his appeal) less of a loner.

No one has seen or heard of Marsha in AGES. This gets you no "bump" whatsoever. It kind of produces a head-scratching "Huh?" from me. And, again, makes a loner character less of a loner.

    Um. No.

How does that make him more appealing to anyone outside of Texas A&M students and alumni?

This is kind of out of left field, isn't it? Why would making a Thor villain a central figure in a Spider-Man spin-off bump up your sales? If anything, wouldn't it be weird/confusing to your core audience who is already on the book? There seemed to be a similar reaction to Spider-Girl readers when Red Hulk kept showing up in her last book-- a feeling of "Why is this non-Spider-Universe character in my Spider-Universe book?"

Dear God, no. That is the whole point of having a Kaine book-- and what the readers have been positively responding to the MOST-- the fact that he's so NOT like Peter. That's the entire appeal of the book.

And, to stave off some of the Scarlet Spider/chicken littles out there...
The book HAS an appeal and is doing MUCH better than a lot of you are giving it credit for.
Something to keep in mind (that everyone seems to be ignoring)...
Due to popular demand: EVERY issue of SCARLET SPIDER has gone back to press for extra printings-- and THOSE printings haven't been added to recent tallies you may have seen on line. The book is doing better than you think it is. And it is REALLY hitting well with the people who are reading it.
    Dan,
Any plans to write Scarlett Spider in the near future?

Totally agreed....when it was leaked that Kaine was gonna be SS (and not Ben), I scratched my head. But....then I read the book and it makes all the sense in the world: with Kaine, he can be different than Peter instead of just being, well, a clone. I'm loving the approach and the book so far....here's hoping it has a nice, long run!

Her powers a awesome!! They would make a great team. And they could also bring back Stunner by transforming Angelina Brancale's physical body to match the virtual reality image in the flesh. It would be cool to see a main villian that is inspired by Joe Quesada(Chairman of the Board) like Todd McFarlane did with Tony Twist by making him into a Mob Boss.

I agree with everyone of your statements. What I don't agee with is this. While Peter Parker went to a fictional university ESU, Kaine could easily go to a school that is real and could only add more readers. I mean who is going to stop reading cus he is trying to further his education. But by no means does this have to happen, in fact i see no reason it should, but if the powers that be wanted it to, i honestly don't think it would hurt. By your arguement why would a character that lived in New York be appealing to anyone outside of New York.

That's good to read. I love this book and hope it can continue for years to come.

In my opinion, Kaine is already successful. I used to be a Ben Reilly fan, but I would hate for him to come back now. Let Kaine do his thing.
One of the things that appeals to me about this is how he is off from the rest of the MU, I know the Avengers will be coming in a few issues and I'm looking forward to their appearance because it feels like a big thing due to the fact that Kaine is a loner. If he's on a team or having crossovers every issue I think the series will loose some of the magic. Maybe years down the track if the book is still a hit and Kaine has made some strides in his life than the idea of him joining a team could be considered but definitely not now.

I wouldn't want him to go to Uni either. It could be cool down the line, but right now he seems to still be figuring out who he is. Career options look a long way off. Anyway, I'm off to re-read SS1 & 2 again because I won't get to pick up #3 until tomorrow.

Although potentially pissing off Longhorn/Gamecock fans.

Really though, any time someone starts offering up specific suggestions on a book, odds are they're wrong.

Down the line they could do another Circle of Four crossover with Daken, Skaar and whoever becomes Ghost Rider next.

The problem with A&M is its connected to the very passionate world of college football. As a UGA alum, if A character I read decided to go to Auburn, Florida, or Georgia Tech, our three main rivals, I would feel nauseous and be removed from the story

I think school is pretty low on Kaine's list of priorities right now.

    3. Make Volcana as an Ally/Partner.
    4. Make Joe Quesada's(The Chairman of the Board) character a Mexican Druglord in Texas
    5. Make him a college student at Texas A&M University.
    6. Make The Enchantress an anti-hero/villainess towards Kaine.

Make Kaine an everyman like Peter Parker.

    Anyone else like my idea?
your heart is in the right place but these ideas should be done differently.

    1. lets wait till the book has gone past a year before we start talking team-ups but I agree with defenders as a choice. Besides didn't Mr. Yost say that the initiative team for Texas was gonna play a role in the book so him trying to decide whether or not he should join them seems more natural.

    2. Isnt HAMMER defunct? if Kaine was revealed to be an inside man for Peter/Madame web when HAMMER was in power or something that would have been cool.

I don't think Kaine cares about Alien immigration enough to consider joining SWORD. But it would be cool to see an alien character as apart of the supporting cast. I rather see Spider-woman agent of SWORD.

You know what would be cool, bringing back the Web Corps company from the Arana series and having them trying to employ Kaine. Dude's looking for a job and knowing more about his spider-powers might interest. Plus there is potential in seeing what office life is like in that company.

    3. You might as well bring try to bring in one of the other Black Widows (Yelena,Monica, the original servant of Satan) or just revamp Z-list hero.

    4. Too random- it would be funny if Chris Yost/ryan stegman created cariactures of themselves to put in the book.

    5. Why would he go to college at all? might seem like a waste of money to him.

    6. How about Tarantula, Bride of nine spiders, or nina the second Arana?

Well everyman characters having the notoriety of going bad one you just focus on making the character seem average or someone else. So making him seem like Peter would be a bad idea. So making Kaine every-mannish in his own way would be better.

Just having Kaine interacting with regular people and dealing with figuring out what a normal existence would be for him is a great idea.

Oddly enough, this comic reminds me of the show being human in that regard.
