Default Time For The Real Mar-Vell To Stand Up: Captain Marvel Appreciation

Years have gone by since we last saw one of Marvels greatest hero and now the time has come to remind everyone who the real Protector of the Universe is! Show your respect for Captain Mar-Vell!

    Synopsis

Captain Marvel has always been a torn between worlds, whether due to the bigotry of his alien homeworld, to his entrapment in the Negative Zone, or to his current realization of the call of duty over the knowledge of his fate. Throughout it all, however, he has proven over and over again why many consider him to be one of the greatest heroes of all time.

    Powers

Thanks Dr. Benjamin Savannah's radiation treatment and the Kree Nega-Bands, bestowed upon him by the Supreme Intelligence himself, Captain Marvel has an array of superhuman abilities.

Solar Energy Conversion- Through a combination of Mar-vell's Nega-Bands and physical make up the Captain is able to absorb and then convert solar energy into a variety of uses. His absorption includes any form Star light and other similar forms of light.

Super Strength- Most Kree are naturally able to lift 2-3 tons under optimal conditions. However, Captain Marvel's base strength is 15 tons. This ability increased with more with the amount of solar energy he has absorbed. The max amount he was theorized as being capable of lifting is 50-60 tons for a short period of time. In saying this no true limit was ever made clear.

Photon Blast- Mar-Vell is capable of projecting the solar energy he absorbed in the form of concussion photon blast.

Flight/Super Speed- Captain Marvel is capable of flight at trans-light speed. This ability comes in handy when great distance needed to be reached in the depths of space. When Mar-Vell flies he leaves behind his signature star field.

Limited Durability- While never stated as an official capability Captain Marvel has taken incredible blows from powerful heroes and villains alike. Being capable of standing toe to toe with Thanos it can be assumed that Captain Marvel has a degree of durability above that of a normal man. This durability also extends itself to being capable of surviving in the vacuum of space for an indefinite amount of time.

Minor Molecular Control- She can use absorbed energy to transform her regular clothing into her costume and vice-versa.

Cosmic Awareness- Arguably Captain Marvel's most impressive power is his Cosmic Awareness. This ability allows him to know exactly what he feels he needs to know at any given moment. This could range from what his current location is to discovering an opponents weakness. This power alone made Captain Marvel a force to be reckoned with. Here is a small demonstration of the power use in battle.

    Skills
Captain Marvel was consider the best solider and warrior in the Kree Army. Being highly trained and capable hand-to-hand combatant and tactician he was often compared to the likes of Captain America in terms of ability. Being from a highly advance alien civilization Captain Marvel also had extensive knowledge in highly advance Kree technology. Due to Mar-Vell's upbringing in an advance alien culture is intelligence is superior to that of humans. Mar-Vell was capable of matching the most advance thinkers in the marvel universe as they made great calculations in seconds. On top of that Mar-Vell is skilled in the filed of mathematics, robotics, and mechanics.

Welcome to the thread and get ready for some of the greatest journeys in the cosmos being brought back to life!

Here is Mar-Vell's first issue. (Took me forever to find this in the Attic....just saying)

In this issue Mar-Vell held his own against the deadly the Kree Sentry.

It was also the first appearance of Carol Davners . Better known to the world as Ms. Marvel!

That is truly one of Marvel Comics best stories. Eventually I'll have to post up battle with Nitro that led to that story.

It had better be for real this time. I didn't read 'Return' but I read what he turned out to be. He was Nitro still alive after Civil War #1?

I used to think Captain Marvel #1 was his first appearance too, but it was actually in Marvel Super-Heros #12 where Mar-vell made his first appearance in comics.

He's an all time classic and I really hope this time around its the real thing.

My favourite super-hero as a kid. Gil Kane's terrific rendition of Mar-Vell's uniform probably had something to do with that.

    Right over here--next to him....

I remember that inspiring graphic novel (the first ever done by Marvel IIRC). It was a good story and an interesting take on a superhero being felled by cancer as opposed to some nefarious, vilianous foe. But even then I thought it was a cheat--I believed then and continue to believe now that Mar-Vell is a viable and iconic figure for the MU. I felt that the Marvel PTB aquienced to Starlin to conclude the end of the character in a memorable way. It was nice--but it is not sancrosant. The nature of comics is to have dead heroes return (as their mythological predecessors did before them).

The MU is poorer for not having Mar-Vell as part and parcel of its intriguing fabric for the past several decades. To bring the one true Mar-Vell back is not going to invalidate his death (It WAS a great story; but now is the time for an INCREDIBLE story bringing this hero to the forefront once again). In the words of Picard I say to Marvel, "Make it so." Let the Amazing, Mighty, Fantastic, Incredible, Uncanny and Spectacular Captain Mar-Vell take his rightful place in the present-day MU as the inspiring hero that he is..."Come back Mar-Vell---come back!"

Oh, the real Mar-Vell is coming back, all right.

Not only do I believe Marvel would NOT throw out yet another fake Mar-Vell, but the Phoenix kinds has this obsession with bringing dead things back.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, YES, YES, YES! 2012 might be a great year if Mar-Vell can make it back for more than an 'event!'

I think that either is fine so long as it IS Mar-Vell; but in truth I have a slight preference for the white hair. The white hair sets him apart from all yellow-haired blondes in the MU and it looks cool--Peter Graves cool. Bring back Captain Mar-Vell!

I like both really so it doesn't matter to me. However, if were going which looks better in his traditional red&blue suit I would go with blonde. The white hair does set him apart( outside of Quicksilver,Magneto, and Storm) but it doesn't really look all that great in the costume. If he switches to the white and green costume, I could see that working a lot better.
