Looks a lot like motion comics, which everyone said was going to be the next big thing, but weren't.
It's cool for sure. A little flash added to comic books. But I think they are going a little too far with voice overs and the like -- Marvel (and DC) don't have the budget to do that well, honestly.
And did they claim that they are the only ones ever to do content specifically for digital? Because they've been doing that for years, as has DC. I suppose they mean content ALTERED for digital, but still.

I don't get this. From what I read the smart phones scan and image and you just get extra content that you would probably find online anyhow? Is that what this is.
Because the Joe Quesada interview seems to suggest the actual extra will be embedded into digital content but that's not what I'm reading here. Apparently that's a bit off yet.
So the actual anouncement is what? get Marvel.com content on your phone?
Am I missing something?
Edit: Ah I just read the Nova article and they seem to be two different things. Nothing that effects me then with my crappy phone. Just seems like another motion comics thing to me though, although kudos to them for getting the ball rolling. I think it will be a while before something like this ticks though.
Honestly though, completely over-hyped.

I'm hyped. First the digital copies with 4 dollars titles, now this. Of course I'm hyped!
"There is nothing that we're doing that means you have to spend more money to enjoy it. In fact, for the same amount of money, I'd say you're getting a lot more value," Phillips said.
So, is Marvel going to give me a free phone or tablet, as well as free data and calling plans, or is Phillips a lying sack of excrement? Peter, IM me and I'll give you my address so you can send me my free devices, OK?
"The AR app is really targeted towards the print comics reader. (so why isn't it in print, then?) It's really keying off the print comic itself. There's no Augmented Reality for a digital comic. Will we get there? Yeah, we'll get there. But this is the start of a much bigger initiative, and the piece we're kicking off with is the print AR app. The way it works is that there are certain image throughout the story where you can take your phone or whatever device (they're called eyes) you're using to key off that image and get the augmented experience. And for now, that's restricted to the print comic. We are still proudly selling our digital comic, and we've also got an enhancement for that for 'AvX' with the Infinite Comics."
No app is geared towards the print reader. Print is geared towards the print reader. Apps are geared towards mechanical devices.

from the article:-
hmmmmmm. Such a prepared announcement. Why not make the announcement one something HAS been cooked up."Our AR app features provide added-value story content that will enhance the reading experience in ways we’re still cooking up."
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

Actually not harsh enough, but I'm being somewhat polite.
And such app is useless unless one buys a computer with a camera. Those cost money not included in the cost of a copy of AvX. I'd be willing to amend my statement to include laptop computer in addition to smartphone or tablet. So, Peter, IM me and I'll let you know where I live so you can give me a free laptop so you can prove you're a man of your word.

Some laptops do not have cameras (which would be the way a laptop or phone could pick up a visual image, right?) and most desktops do not have a camera so it's not an unreasonable stretch to be able to post from a machine without a camera. The app is useless unless the image can be scanned into the computer, isn't it?
