Nonsense, the book of the year is Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates!
All his seven issues so far have been legendary, and each individually makes for a fun read!

I don't get the Fatale hype. It didn't impress me. I'll wait till the trade comes out and read it again, to see if it works better connected.
Also, seriously? Spawn compares to any of those others? What's even going on in Spawn at this point?
Would you reccomend his other image series?

Hickman is a better idea man, then he is writer. I love the concepts of all of his work but when I read them, they are so boring and flat.
Pull List: Valiant Comics, Haunted Horror, Popeye Classics, Suicide Squad, Uncanny X-Force, X-Men
My comicartfans.com collection. Lots of Ryan Ottley:

I wouldn't go quite that far, but I get where you're coming from. The execution rarely lives up to the promise of the high concept, and his character work has been something of a mixed bag. There's always a cerebral appeal, but it's often bloodless and not particularly engaging.
Also, regarding this issue in particular, I thought the twist was somewhat clumsily telegraphed. I still liked it quite a bit, but I wouldn't say it's any better, say, Fatale #1.

Boring and Flat is a poor choice of words.
While I did like the issue, I'll trade it in the end. I actually didn't see the ending coming cause the layout of the twins back story was clumsy. I didn't know to read one page then the other or to read right across blue, then orange. It could have been better laid out.

I agree that #1 is better in these aspects than usual Hickman's work. My major problem with him is that his stories, while brilliantly plotted with a very long term planing, at the same time more often than not manage to disappoint at the ending point. At least to me he has some big problems with selling the pay off of all these storylines he created along the way to the grand finale to make them really spectacular (it happened with Secret Warriors and though he got better it's similar with his Fantastic Four run). I think Hickman still needs to work on his storytelling skills, but once he improves them he will without any doubt be one of the best writers right now.
