I'm not sure why Under the Hood (an excellent Batman story with repercussions to the present) is considered non-core when War Games and Drums (weak and all repercussions retconned) are, so I'd switch them, but its a solid list. Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader is a must read also.
I would like to say for the record that this is the FIRST TIME I've withheld dong when someone was so desperately asking for some.

There are so many great older Batman story lines but I've got to say I have really loved the new Batman (not Detective or Batman and Robin so much). This Owls story arc has been really cool. Is DC to Batman centric, sure, but when they do a Batman story right it is hard for any book to hold a candle to it.

Ya consider arkham asylum good? Kinda boring and confusing to me.

Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better.

Thank you for all this brilliant information. I'm making my way through some of the most highly recommended novels and am enjoying them very much.

Hi all. I've just read Batman Inc. and am finally reading to catch up on the rest of this Morrison business, and I've had a look at the list on another thread of the 9 trades I need to pick up. My question is this. I know the three Batman And Robin collections are available in oversized hardcovers, and I was wondering whether Batman RIP, Time And The Batman and The Return Of Bruce Wayne are available in this larger hardcover format? I know Batman And Son and The Black Glove are being collected in one volume this June and I'm not sure if that's regular trim or oversized either. I'd really appreciate anyone's advice, cheers.

As you said Batman & Son and The Black Glove will be collected in one book in June and will be oversized hardcover. RIP is the same size and so is ROBW. So all of these books have the same size as the Batman & Robin and Batman Inc. hardcovers. The only odd duck is Time and the Batman, which is standard size hardcover. I haven't heard any news that this book will be released as OHC, but who knows DC might eventually do release it in the same format.

ive always loved batman but have never really been into comics. only just getting into them now with some of the less mainstream stuff (dead@17, kick ass, watchmen etc). but i decided im going to bite the bullet and get into comics.

what would be a good place to start. my exposure to batman has been strictly film/tv including the old adam west version. i didnt really like batman begins.

Hey all, I am new to the forums and comic book reading in general and I would like to get some input on what are the best Batman comics to read.

    Cheers,

Thanks. The only question now is whether or not to wait for the OHC in June or pick up the trades now, get started and upgrade later. Decisions, decisions. Anyway, many thanks again

ive just started on batman year one and notice that they are issues 401 - 405 (or whatever) of the regular batman comic. once i finish these do i just move on to the next issue in sequence or is it not worth doing it that way and skip ahead to the long halloween (which is next in the list at the start of this thread)

Not necessary. Try reading everything in order you'll go broke and crazy, there's just too much stuff and it's very up and down in quality. Most of the best stuff is reprinted and the best way to look at comics is as a series of self contained story arcs that just happen to relate loosely to one another in forming an overall history of a character

Long Halloween is displayed next because it was the second most voted for book in a Beginner Trades poll I ran a while ago. But it's ALSO a book that chronically follows Year One, being set in the very early days after Batman's appearance in Gotham, so it's an excellent book to read next.
