    Default Worried For vertigo?

Is anyone else starting to get worried about vertigos future?
Image this year have series heaps of high profile writers
    Ed Brubaker
    Grant Morrison
    Kirkman
    Layman
    BKV
    Chaykin
    Spencer
There is the Millar/Quitely project,Johnathan Ross/Hitch project and the New Brian wood series

I love my vertigo but fables doesnt interest me, Unwritten and sweet tooth cant last much longer, Saucer country look interesting but has the star power all moved to image?

Looking at my own pull list, it's down to very few Vertigo series, and a lot of Image:

Vertigo: Sweet Tooth, Scalped (ending), DMZ (ending), Unwritten, Hellblazer, Spaceman, Fables
Image: Fatale, Prophet, Rebel Blood, Saga, Walking Dead, Invincible, Witch Doctor, Severed, Skullkickers, Chew, Bulletproof Coffin, Elephantmen, Morning Glories + adding the new Morrison and the new Spencer/Rossmo series at least out of the new ones.

When I first started in comics, it was more like 10 Vertigo to 2 Image. What kills me is all the Vertigo-like material in the main DC line now. I'm afraid Vertigo itself will get very small / niche with a few minor series with lesser known talent.

I've heard mention that they've changed their contracts and not for the better.
That's not going to get them any better books.

After coming back from the Image Expo, DC, Vertigo and Marvel better watch out, image is bring their A game to the table and going to be releasing a ton of amazing titles. Also, not just Image but also IDW, Arachia, Boom, and others are upping up their game even further.

I personally don't have very much brand loyalty when it comes to creator owned comics. So as long as good stuff is still coming out somewhere, I'm happy. With all of this good stuff coming out from across indie-ish verse, there's one thing we don't have to worry about. Good comics.

A lot of their recent projects are looking a bit samey... Image is most definitely the one to watch now for the kind of books Vertigo used to be famous for.

I will be watching wherever Karen Berger ends up very closely.

    Don't worry, she is! :)
But if she were to, say, end up getting a job at Dark Horse or some such, then I'd be prepared to take my Vertigo business there.

I assume that Morrison doing his book with Darrick Robertson at Image is partly because the last time Roberson was at DC, it didn't really go well for him. Signed an exclusive contract, just so he could work on The Boys, which DC's higher ups then canceled because they didn't like it.

Of course, the changed Vertigo contracts likely have something to do with it as well.

For example, because of changes, we cannot read Shade in a popular series like JLD. So that's mean, that character which is so connected with Vertigo, cannot get new trade paperbacks.

For example, Fables is looking like core of the Vertigo universe. Which is have strong style, same with Unwritten, Sweeth Tooth etc.

Where's my edgy Vertigo? Probably, gone.

They are not dark and sexual anymore. New series looking like, how can i say, so 'fairy'.

In the good times, Vertigo had different realities.

What? This makes zero sense. We totally can read the Shade in a popular series like JLD.
If they stopped putting his old series into trade then the only reason for that would be disappointing sales of the 3 trades they made.

    Theer is no Vertigo universe.

American Vampire, Scalped, Unwritten, Spaceman, various Vertigo Crime books.

Not looking hard enough. Also, isn't Fables the book where Snow White is boinking the Big Bad Wolf?

Sorry but everything's looking so formulating.

Fables books and sex? Try Extremist if you want to see what i want from Vertigo when we re talkinh about sex, sexuality, gender. Or Doom Patrol.

No, we cannot. Lemire will not use Shade in his upcoming JLD.

In old Vertigo books, imagination was wild. But right now, books are really really slow. When i'm reading Unwritten, i can feel i'm reading Books Of Magics meets that meets this and, i need to go to sleep. Yes, they re both amazing but we need more more more when we re talking about Vertigo. We cannot go anywhere with classic fantasy, vampire tales, crime books etc. I cannot see high concept anymore.

Hope they'll do something with that.

I think the major difference between having a book at Image versus Vertigo moving forward is going to be whether you're willing to give up the right to manage the book in the way you want in exchange for payment before the book appears. What makes Image so attractive for established talent is that you own the property outright-- you own the mechandising, you own the movie rights, you can take the book wherever you want once you've fulfilled the terms of your Image contract, etc-- but you're not going to make any money until the book has actuallly been sold. At Vertigo, you get paid upfront before an issue is released, but WB/DC will have a controlling interest in how your property is managed as far as reprinting, other media, etc. If you're Grant Morrison, you can probably afford to make to get paid until after the book is published, but not every creator has that luxury. That's why you see that most new Image properties are people still trying to break into the mainstream industry or established pros with a dedicated audience.

There's also the matter of Marshall Law moving to Vertigo, which is still under negotiation. That suggests that the contracts aren't as cut and dry as we've been led to believe.

We totally can. We won't anymore in the near future, but that's somehting else entirely. I'm sorry if the new writer doesn't like your pet character as much, but you are not entitled to new Shade stories.

I'm just going out on a limb here and assume that you have had extremely little actual contact with books like Sweet Tooth, Air, and especially Unwritten.
