Thread: The DC relaunch

There are only a few gems from it. The decision to go with a full reboot was brash and seems to work with inflated numbers, but none of the books feel really sustainable. They just feel like Elseworlds books because they have no real history behind them now. That's why I had little reason to care about most of the 90's Image books before Moore came and helped flesh out the universes. Most of the characters I really liked from the old DC & Wildstorm universes have been fucked up by changes or aren't recognizable any longer. Not to mention the fates of the Wolfman/Johns years Titans, Wally, Donna, etc.

Basically it feels like they spit on me as a fan by saying that my years of hard earned money supporting their product didn't manner because they wanted to be new and edgy, but appeal to 70s fans somehow.. Same way I felt when Barry & Hal came back to replace Wally & Kyle

Did he say he didn't want her in the book, or didn't understand the logic of putting them together at first but then came to see what connected them, to see that they all shared this severely damaged past and each had an interesting psychological make up as a result?

The fist TPBs and HCs of the new 52 titles come out in May.

He didn't want her, after the first issue came out he then said after writing her a bit he grew to like her and understand how she would fit in with the group mainly because he got upset at people saying his version of Starfire is a slut and a whore

Much like he claims they're not a team even though he writes them as one

Haven't picked up a single DC title since. Too much time & money invested in the old DCU to start over.

I'm loving the relaunch. Getting way more DC books than Marvel right now. I've had to drop 3 of them (Demon Knights, Flash, I Vampire) but those were for budgetary reasons, and not because I didn't like them.

    Favorite books:

    Batman
    Swamp Thing
    Animal Man

I don't think he said it happened after he got a few issues in -- I'm pretty sure he said it was after he thought about it. And it's not that he 'didn't want her', he just didn't understand how they all fit together. That's different.

And I have to say, that last bit there is obviously not based in anything approaching fact, but your own bitter supposition. I just want to clarify that when I ask for clarification, I'd appreciate it if you separated statements of fact (even if it is badly remembered or interpreted) from statements of opinion.

Wasn't reading any DC before the reboot. Because of the reboot I figured it would be good place to start.
Only reading Suicide Squad. Tried Animal Man, Swap Thing, Wonder Women and a few others that are hyped up.
I just can't seem to care about the DC universe, and I dislike a lot of the art.
Greatest moment in Marvel history: Layla Miller reading Atlas Shrugged.

Which would have happened after he he had no choice since again it was mandated she be in the book, it's obvious that he didn't get her for the first couple of issues as she was a dues ex machina for the team in fact you can still make that claim as last issue was a flash back since the issue before that was her doing what she normally does......take out who ever they're fighting.

Neither is your assumption such as the one of me being bitter( I'm not but it's hilarious you think I am ), I gave you clarification so it is your hang up that it wasn't to your liking and if you're going to make claims of people separating statements from opinion then you should take a bit of your own advice

I'm buying a lot more DC books now than ever, mostly because the relaunch has ended up with more of my favourite characters, or rather, my favourite corner of the DCU (the mystic stuff) getting some love.

As far as the second wave goes, I'll be getting Batman Incorporated and Dial H. I'm a huge China Mieville fan; he's possibly my favourite novelist these days. I was considering Earth 2, but ultimately, James Robinson has struck out for me.

You didn't ask for clarification. I did. You were purposely giving misleading information. I find that to be offensive.

Only reading Birds of Prey currently, which is one more ongoing than I was reading before, but whether or not I stick with it depends on if Foreman delivers.

I tried a few others but they were not for me for various reasons including pacing, excitement, emotional resonance and creative quality.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

The DC relaunch has definitely gotten me interested in DC again. Pretty much to the point that my weekly intake of DC matches my weekly intake of Marvel, which hasn't happened in a long time. It isn't that Marvel has gotten that much worse. The quality of the books that DC is putting out is just so great that Marvel really hasn't done much to exceed it. It also doesn't help that Marvel absolutely destroyed their Ultimate line. It doesn't help that Fear Itself ended with a whimper. Overall, I find myself enjoying DC books more while Marvel's books seem more hit or miss. Then again, Marvel's big Avengers vs. X-men event may change that. This event could be what puts them back on top. But there's an equal chance that it'll end like Fear Itself and give fans like me even more reason to give more money to DC. I hope that doesn't happen, but for now I would say that DC has much more upside than Marvel at the moment.

It's definitely reinvigorated my interest in DC. I've always been a DC fan, but it was difficult to find places to hook myself into the last year or so before the relaunch -- they had the best book running in comics (Morrison's Batman run) and a few other good ones here and there (Xombi, Secret Six, Thunder Agents, Doom Patrol, etc), but there wasn't the across the line quality there is now.

Books like Action Comics, Wonder Woman, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, I, Vampire, Justice League Dark, Demon Knights, OMAC, Frankenstein, Flash, Batwoman, Batman, the Shade (maxi), THUNDER Agents...all varying degrees of brilliant. Plus a solid midline of books like Batman and Robin, Birds of Prey, Batwing, Green Lantern, Resurrection Man, Legion of Superheroes, Red Hood, Teen Titans, etc.

Marvel's putting out a lot of really entertaining stuff too, though, so I'm not complaining. Wolverine and the X Men, Daredevil, Journey Into Mystery, Uncanny X Force, Secret Avengers, Fantastic Four, FF, Ultimates.

I'm not as jazzed for it as I am the best of the DC books, though, and I'm not interested in any of their books that I'm sure are decent or good but not great.
