Default What if Apple made a console.

So I recently bought a MacBook Pro and am impressed. When these forums got hacked with malware it killed my PC but did nothing to this macbook. Anyways I'd think a Apple console would be a easy progression for Apple. With there experience with selling apps and Apple TV they should be able to create a console over night. Has Apple ever entertained the idea of getting into consoles? With all the Billions they have I think they can now afford to fail at trying it.

Theres the example of the first time they failed.

Theres probably no room in the market for a 4th console, imo, and Apple computers have never ever ever ever ever ever EVER been for gamers in the home computer realm.

So unless they convince people to buy something that lets them play tower defense and angry birds on their tv, i don't see it working. You can't use your Apple Console in a starbucks so their goes 75% of the appeal.

Btw: i could get into the reasons your macbook isn't getting hit as hard by malware and viruses, but it would insult a mac fan, just take my word that it has nothing to do with the built in safety of the system and more due to the systems themselves being about 1/10th as common as a windows machine.

I think Apple already has a their own little corner in the "gaming" industry. Super casual low maintenance App games! For people who just want to pick something up that has a lot of accessibility and can just as easily be forgotten.

And yea, like mentioned above, Macs were never known as high-end gaming machines. Almost all serious gamers still use PC for customization to maximum performance.

Or for actually getting all the games on release date, or ever.

You all bring up good points.

If Apple did enter the market someone would have to lead in Apple were to be successful.

As for the performance of high end gaming. I noticed my games I have on PC and Mac differ from requirements. Mac can run a game at a lower requirement.

For getting games developed for it I think if a developer saw a potential for profit they'd make a game for Apple console.

I don't see Apple pulling a Microsoft and dumping a system on the market but maybe their Apple TV could evolve in a console.

Yeah, I think an Apple console would suck. I already didn't like thier PCs. I should as hell won't like their consoles. And if they ever do try, you know Xbox will kick it's ass.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is not canon to anything. Nor is the new Clone Wars movie.

I don't think anyone can out-gimmick Nintendo. They're the gimmick masters of "innovation"

They might not have to out gimick them, theres a group of people who will buy anything apple makes as long as it has an i in front of it, even if it's not a real upgrade from the last model.
That can support a Saturn level success.

Obligatory comment about how it'll have hardware equivalent to the new Xbox but cost twice as much.

It's apple and a gaming system, it wouldn't be equvilant to the new xbox.

    Unless you mean the 360.

    Something like that:

    An Apple Console would:

Work well, but probably not be the pinnacle of innovation or performance in its' class. However, it also would be unlikely to have problems like "Red Rings of Death" and the like. Dependable but not mind-blowing performance.

Look super-sexy sitting in/on your entertainment center.

Cost 3 times as much as it should because it's got that "apple" logo on it.

Apple would have an operating system named after a wild cat and every year they would have a new operating system which you would be forced to pay 500 bucks for anytime you wanted to add a new game or controller to it.
