Another issue here is that, unlike the 99-cent sales and the day-and-date Wednesday comics, the weekly price drop of DC's month-old comics isn't promoted at all. What is surprising is that the peak on the day the price drops from $2.99 to $1.99 is relatively small. Hibbs takes this to mean that digital buyers are not that sensitive to price; I would interpret it as meaning that digital prices are still too high for price-sensitive buyers who think 99 cents is the sweet spot.
That said, I don't think Hibbs is unreasonable to suggest that digital comics are selling mainly to an audience that would rather pay a bit more in order to follow continuity-centric storylines, and that this points to a failure to draw genuinely new readers. But that's a weakness of the current business model and the content being sold, not an inherent weakness of the digital market.
I know I don't pay much attention to when the price drop happens - I think I've waited for the price drop once since I've been buying digitally. (I missed Catwoman #5 when it came out, decided to buy it a couple of days before the drop - so waited 2-3 days).
What I do like the dollar drop for is collecting back issues I've missed. I jumped on LoSH with issue 5, and the lower price made it much less of a psychological hump to go back and get 1-4. It's one reason I buy so few Marvel books - I don't want to pay full cover to get six-month-old back-issues. I buy IDW and Dynamite's $3.99 books a month late - because the drop is really significant (they go all the way to $1.99) but Marvel's priced themselves out of the market. Why should I buy Marvel when so many of their books are twice the price of everyone else's?
Anyone who thinks DC is bringing back the Silver Age doesn't know what the Silver Age is.
There is no such word as "persay," it's per se, two words, from the Latin.
