Anyone still holding a grudge?
Anyone still holding a grudge?
Yes. When I go pick up my latest batch of titles that've been accumulating for the last six weeks or so, I'm going to decide on whether I'm in or out. By all appearances, I'm probably quitting DC entirely.
Well, not a "grudge", but I'm definitely not happy with it.
One book (Flash) is admitedly better as a result of the change, but many others that I read (or use to read) aren't.
I get that DC had to do something to change things up, but I still think it was screwed-up by not rebooting everything and by having a very indefinite message as to what they decided to keep in play from the past. (And the fact that seems to change on a whim like DiDio rushing out to eat doesn't help things, nor that books featuring the same characters seem completely out of sync with what's happening in other books.)
DC made some changes and took a calculated risk that pretty much excluded my interest / likes. It happens, but I don't have to support their efforts that I feel are lame and ill-conceived.
I don't hold grudges against funnybooks.
"You can't trust them as poets either. The true poet is anonymous, as to his habits, but these boys have to look, act, and apparently smell like poets"
Flannery O'Connor on the beats.
That's a rhetorical question, right? Of course there are people still mad about it, just like there are still people mad about the Clone Saga and Avengers Disassembled and Jason Todd's return, and any other thing that happened in some book published years or decades ago.
Not necessarily mad, just annoyed at the way in which they approached it.
I think they managed to create a lot of confusion with this "soft" reboot. Some titles continued along pretty much as normal, others were completely hard rebooted, others had some things change and some stay the same, and little thought seemed to go into how what changed in what book might affect another.
I personally think they should have just gone the distance and completely rebooted the whole thing. Far simpler, less confusion, and the creators would have no previous continuity to hold them back.
I have mixed feelings but I wouldn't say I hate it.
I don't mind the idea of a reboot I just dislike what they did with it as I don't think I need the compression of the timeline to better serve characters I didn't need ie Barry Allen to come back and having a second chance while doing a disservice to the younger generation who should be moving forward and growing up..
dc did a disservice to a large segment of characters by effectively freeze framing them and preventing them for moving forward. now the chances for me doing a lian as speedy story is now shot.
If it was a more harder reboot , I would like it better but this wishy washy trying to eat my cake too reboot nostalgia is not something I support. I do think there were easier/ better ways to do it.
I'm not saying I hate some of the books they got because I did like flash and action comics, this is just how I feel.
In as much as:
1. I dislike the non-existence of Oracle,
2. Hate what The Engineer has become, and
3. Ain't see no Ted Kord.
I'm liking Blackhawks and Redhood more than I thought I would, so my "DC'll never get my money" rage has dissipated, but I would have read a book about the Blackhawks or a rag-tag team of Nate Ford, Jack Burton, and alien Parker back in the old DCU.
I am now reading an Animal Man, Superman, Flash and Wonder Woman comic on a regular basis.
So, yes, in that DC now has me interested in high caliber creative teams and is convincing me to spend more money.
Like a well-groomed car salesman.

Indeed.
If we were to revisit this same question in thirty years, I'm sure there would *still* be *somebody* mad about it, though likely much fewer than there are today.
See my signature.
Then again, I shouldn't be a hypocrite about it: I admit that I'm *still* ticked off at the Marvel Bullpen and Doug Moench for cancelling SHOGUN WARRIORS in 1980 in favor of MOON KNIGHT. I've *never* forgiven Marvel for that.
I confess: I hate Moon Knight to this very day for denying me my giant Japanese robot fix back in an era when that was hard to come by in the U.S.

I guess most people with "grudges" had them way before the reboot. Wally West fans, Cass Cain fans, etc. So, the reboot is not really to blame - at least directly.
People who were complaining about the costumes or Superman`s marriage seem to have vanished for the most part.
But if you go to the WW forums, I`m sure you`ll see some folks repeating (a lot) that "that`s not Wonder Woman" and throwing Xena`s name around.
I'm not sure how many "vanished" and how many just gave up complaining because it seems useless at this point. (Or how many may have just gone underground and are waiting for the right time to start the Fan Revolution, ousting the current evil dictators in a (relatively) bloodless coup.)
Oh, come on...that's *never* stopped angry fanboys before.
I hear they're planning an "Occupy DC" (and I don't mean the national capital) movement.(Or how many may have just gone underground and are waiting for the right time to start the Fan Revolution, ousting the current evil dictators in a (relatively) bloodless coup.)
