Cops from other books to attract readers from those titles, but also "red shirt" unknows to develop and do with as the writer wishes.

(Also, if any "known" officers / detectives aren't being used anymore in those other titles, they could be put in jeopardy without a definite positive outcome, too. )
Oh yeah, i would use/recommend a mix if the characters were there. If not though, I don't think using unknowns would be a problem at all. As I said, I didn't know any of the characters in Gotham Central before I read the series, and loved that title.

Although you could put them in jeopardy, given that neither of us can think of any it sounds like Marvel's New York needs a few more established cops around! No wonder there are so many super villains active there, if there are no detectives.

Gotham Central had a huge cast, and only a few characters were pre-existing onew (Montoya, Allen, Sawyer, and commisg. Akins mostly. And Josie Mac got an introduction series as backups in Detective Comics.)
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

Thanks carabas. I got the impression that Montoya and Josie mac were, but wasn't sure at all. It was indeed a large cast.

You know, I actually really like the idea of a Brubaker-written Luke Cage comic. That could be really, really good.

Why not a Cold War book with the first Red Guardian?

You could sneak in Black Widow and Winter Soldier every now and then. Plus it would be interesting to have a fight between Red Guardian and the William Burnside version of Captain America in the early stages of Burnside going crazy. You could also sneak in the Jack Monroe Bucky maybe seeing Winter Soldier in suspended animation or something.

    Or how about Dominic Fortune?

Did he ever show up in the Marvels Project? I remember when he was retconned into Steve Roger's origin story back in 1990.

They would both be good, but Falcon inparticular would be another Captain America spin-off like Winter Soldier (at least it would seen to be) so I don't think Marvel could support both at the same time, especially with the same writer.

So, it looks like there will be no new ongoing from Marvel. i know there are CBR articles, but this interview is really great.

I am happy about more creator-owned work.
