So stoked for whats coming up in this series. Its a crime that it doesn't get more readers.
Confession time: I still haven't read All-Star Western #5. Second Confession time: I'm buying every issue when it comes out. I know it's good stuff so I have to have it, but it's good enough that sometimes I want to wait before reading it.
Anyone who thinks DC is bringing back the Silver Age doesn't know what the Silver Age is.
There is no such word as "persay," it's per se, two words, from the Latin.
I've gotta say that Hex exploring the foundations of the modern day DCU America is one of the most logical, organic and creative concepts I've seen in a long time. Now obviously, Gray and Palmiotti are slightly following in the footsteps of Hex's guest appearance in Return of Bruce Wayne, but it just works as a concept.
I'm sincerely hoping by "visiting other famous locations in the DCU" they mean that Hex will pay a visit to Keystone & Central Cities and tweak the Flash's history books, as well as going even further out west to Coast City, California and impacting on the history of Green Lantern's home town. There's some damn good story to be mined from 1800s "pre-super-hero" time periods, and Westerns in general. I've been loving it so far, and I'm glad to hear that these adventures will have some kind of cumulative impact on Hex himself as we move on. Because while Gotham lends itself to Hex guest-starring in an almost Edgar Allan Poe style setting, with visiting Flash's home town you can really imagine the Spaghetti Western style being predominant, with moving up the Mississippi you can fit him into some kind of Mark Twain homage, and with Coast City you can fit him into gold rush or even Jack London-esque scenarios.

I agree 100%. I think thats the key difference between ASW and JH. Since JH was so disjointed chronologically the amount of potential for future stories was basically "Jonah is probably gonna do some cool stuff" and when the relaunch was announced my thoughts were basically "Well Jonah did some cool stuff." It could have ended at anytime pretty harmlessly (other than it being one less great series on the racks). With ASW I feel that because he is in an environment that is both familiar and different there is tons of stuff to explore and theres a concern that the series won't run long enough to sufficiently cover that material.
Totally agree.
Much like the way they used DC's old western characters in Jonah Hex, I hope to see more of the DCU's immortal or supernatural characters in All-Star Western.
Vandal Savage, Entrigan the Demon, The Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Solomon Grundy, Gentleman Ghost, Ra's al Ghul, and even the current Frankenstein all would lend themselves to great stories with Hex.
Just really submerge Hex in the DCU, bu kind of like a DCU Weird Western Tales.
I do hope they avoid something like making a guy a 19th century Joker or Two-Face and having TOO big of a wink at Gotham's future.

I'm really disappointed to hear the book will still be in Gotham at/past #9.
Hell, I was shocked that the book was still in Gotham come #4!
It's fine for a storyline, but Hex doesn't belong in a city full-time, and Gotham hasn't really added that much to the book at all.
This really has me re-assessing whether I'll be sticking with this book or not.
I'm not you.
So you know I'm right.
Im not shocked they sold out their most famous western hero to become another Gotham/Batman series. Acclaim of the old JH series and fans like us dont matter as much as Gotham,Bat fans who want to read about Owls,Crime bible and dont care about western hero like Jonah Hex.
Im dumping this series after isssue 5 and i almost hope it fails. Its the worst of the reboot. It sold out the only famous american western series to become a series about Gotham. Its a decent series but a terrible Jonah Hex series.
Sad for me who loves reading JH that i will only miss the back up stories who are actually about western stories.

American Vampire,Animal Man,Swamp Thing

I love this series and is, surprisingly (like Aquaman), in the top5 of my favorite DCnU titles. I started with around 30 titles, dropped some, and retained others. I'm glad I tried this title also, I wasnt even supposed to pick this up. I just love how I tough Jonah Hex speaks and I can almost hear him speaking in my head. "Ah already told ya."
Top10 DCnU Titles:
Week 1: Animal Man, Swamp Thing
Week 2: Demon Knights
Week 3: Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Catwoman
Week 4: Aquaman, Flash, All Star Western
