    Default The Wildstorm Thread

With all of the new introductions of the various Wildstorm characters into the DCnU there really should be a hub for the various appearances as well as general topics regarding how these characters fit into this new landscape and where it's all going.

    Well, here it is!

Characters and groups that have already appeared in the DCnU:

    Apollo
    Midnighter
    Jack Hawksmoor
    The Engineer
    Jenny Q
    Grifter
    Voodoo
    Caitlin Fairchild
    Black Razors
    Daemonites

Future characters that have yet to appear but will:

    Grunge
    Warblade
    Deathblow
    Pike
    Helspont

    Any I'm missing?

Someone on another board(but I think she's here as well) also had an interesting theory that the Daemonites might actually be coming into the DCnU through the Bleed(an old WS trope) which would explain why they look different from the old Daemonites considering that any life form that lives too long in the Bleed is supposed to evolve. The Daemonites have found access to the Bleed in the past in the WSU so it wouldn't be impossible. Thoughts?

I hope we see Zealot soon in some capacity. She'd make an interesting addition to the Birds of Prey.

I'd really like to see The Paladins (from the Number of the Beast mini) and the Tranquility characters show up on Earth 2.

yup. that was me with the Bleed theory. I will copy and paste from the other board (we were discussing Grifter #6):

Well, I have a theory about what's in the Himalayas. It's crazy, but... did you notice that the Daemonite's portals were all red and swirly? And why are they relying on portals, anyway? I don't think they're from this dimension in DC, I think they're from The Bleed. Think about it. If they were from regular space, why have the Green Lanterns never encountered them before? Why are they using portals rather than conventional space travel? and why do those portals look like the Bleed? Second part of the theory. The thing he heard, it was large, it crashed after leaving a trail of smoke, and was calling for help, but he didn't seem to think it was a Daemonite at all. It's a ship, a sentient one, and from the Bleed.... so...

btw. where was Pike mentioned as appearing? I don't remember hearing that... but it it was a Liefeld plan I may have glossed over it.

And yes, I hope to see Zealot at some point. I suspect they may tie her to the Amazons. and I thought I was the only one who loved the Paladins! I especially liked Engine Joe and Mago... but I somehow doubt they will ever show up. Also would like to see The High, Backlash, Winter and Jackson King.

Leifeld said Pike would be showing up. And Cheshire is the girl on the Grifter cover with him and Deathblow.

I like the theory about the Bleed. It would make sense, but what would that mean for the Kherans?

Yeah, I saw from the solicit that it was Cheshire... I actually guessed that it was her before seeing the solicit, but as a Secret Six fan, I am disappointed. That is a terrible new costume for her, and I fear Liefeld will mangle the character... I also don't see how that teamup makes sense. While they are violent and sometimes operate in a gray area, Deathblow and Grifter are good guys at heart. she's... you know, a villain.... one that didn't even seem to have much interest in reforming. Like, of the Secret Six characters, I could totally accept some of them going good, like Catman. But not her, she was unrepentant, and I like her for that, in a love to hate sort of way.

but this is the WS thread and she's a DC character, so I'll shut up.

It's great that we're seeing all these Wildstorm characters getting integrated into DC so organically. So far, none of them seemed forced.

I'm still waiting for a Wetworks appearance though... The Wetworks team is perfect for either a Frankenstein Agent of SHADE appearance or as a recurring antagonist in I Vampire. They could butt heads with Andrew Bennet now that it looks like Andrew will be the leader of the vampires after the current story arc.

Pleeease give us some Wetworks! They are very underrated characters. One day. Same as Backlash and Cybernary.

I'm holding out hope for the DCnU equivalent of Coup d'etat.

I also look forward to the potential of seeing The Carrier and The Bleed again. And will we be seeing Henry Bendix?

Some interesting bits from a Scott Lobdell interview over on Newsarama...

    http://www.newsarama.com/comics/scot...ig-120214.html

Nrama: We're finding out that the DC relaunch in your books involves a storyline that integrates WildStorm characters with DC's teen characters. Was that one of your goals?

Lobdell: I wouldn't say it was a goal as much it is just happened. When the New DC was in the earliest days of discussion, I was told to look at the large DC landscape and figure out what worked best for the stories I wanted to tell. Maybe it is because I've worked with Wildstorm characters in the past with runs on WildCats and Gen 13, I just naturally thought of them when it came time to make the most use of the characters at my disposal.

I don't like to think of the company as a series of fiefdoms — the Superman Family, the Batman Family, The Wildstorm Family. I think of every character as part of the DC Family! Here here for cross-pollination!

    And on Grunge's appearance:

Ok, after the Rose Wilson fight, Superboy #8 pits him against Grunge, a fan-favorite character from the old Gen 13 days at WildStorm, What threat does he offer Superboy?

Lobdell: Let me just say this — that Superboy is going to get the butt kick of his very short life! We learned earlier in the series that his T.K. does not work against some people, and Grunge is a guy who can not only enter a room, but by touching it he can become the room itself!

So while Superboy was able to temper Fairchild's assault by dropping her apartment on him, he won't have that option against Grunge. And, unfortunately for him, this is a Grunge who enjoys getting his hands dirty!

I will say this. I think there have been times over the years where Grunge has been played almost entirely for comedic effect, but when you consider his powers as a mega-morph, you start to realize this is one very scary young man when he wants to be!
    Also:

Nrama: Will we see more Gen 13 and WildStorm characters being introduced as the result of the Colony's discovery?

    Lobdell: Sí!

Nrama: Will we find out more about the "13" characters related to Caitlin? In the crossover?

Lobdell: Not in the crossover, no.
Will be interesting to see Grunge as an actual threat...on Warblade:

Nrama: We'll also get to see Warblade introduced during the crossover. What can you tell us about the new Warblade?

Lobdell: Just that he isn't much like the last Warblade. Yes, he's still Reno Bryce, but this is a guy who isn't an homage to another famous character "with claws" — this isn't the berserker or the ronin. This Warblade is a "surgeon" of sorts, as cold and calculating as the razor sharp edge of a scalpel. Seriously, this is one scary dude.
I hope to see an evolution for Warblade from hunter-killer for a shady organization to eventual WildCAT(s)!

Now that you mention it, John Lynch, Tao and Holden Carver should fit nicely in DC's Edge group.

    Cool

I know of Zealot, don't know her comic book wise. She looks like she'd make an interesting villain for WW. Her design influenced Artemis if I have my history correct.
