Default CBR: Columbia Drops "The Boys" Movie

I didn't know Adam McKay was going to do The Boys, I would have loved to see that movie.

Considering the series' content, no wonder Columbia dropped it.

Cant really imagine a movie version being that accurate an adaptation so maybe its for the best.

See, unlike Preacher, this could be done well as a movie. It would lose a lot of the depth, but two hours of Butcher beating the shit out of superheroes would be perfect.

Personally the comic would be more suitable as a HBO series than a actual movie.

Glad this was dropped. Some series are just meant to be the way their are.
    Who's there?

I really don't see this adapted well as a movie. Especially since it will be a dumbed down PG-13 version.

Damn, and I was oh so looking forward to that scene where the Superman, Batman, and Flash analogues "initiate" the new female member.

Adam McKay ("Anchorman," "Talladega Nights") came on board to direct and rewrite what he described in March 2011 as "a $100 million, rated-R, anti-superhero movie."
What PG-13 version are you referring to? By the way, if people like Adam McKay are taking interest then a proper adaption can be done. It's not impossible.

Vinnie Jones would be pretty perfect as Butcher.

That said, the series is way too insane to make as a TV show or a movie.

Even cleaning out the whole sex humor stuff, which is all over the comic, you think the whole Vaught angle storyline with 9-11 as a backdrop would fly?

You can't do the movie without that and I don't think the general US population is ready for any kind of movie like The Boys that uses this as a backdrop.

Preacher is edgy and has things that wouldn't make it into TV, but I could see it somehow being made. I just don't see the Boys ever working that way.

I like Vinnie Jones, but no, he wouldn't be.

A young Ray Winstone would have been a great Butcher.
