Considering only the Bat issues 1 trough 8, I say avarage. It's a a good book that I like to read every month, but nothing more. For every exatrordinarie groundbreaking moment there's silly, corny and uninteresting stuff that brings it down.

This thread shows a good example of the negative minority being MUCH more vocal than the positive majority. With all the hate that gets spewed in the induvidual issue threads, I would have expected to see more 1's and 2's.

You're making a strawman out of people critical of the book. I've been one of the people criticizing this book, but I voted above average. Most people criticizing the run mainly don't think Snyder is god's gift to Batman the way he's touted to be. But I'd still put this book above Detective, Batman and Robin, and Dark Knight.

Jury's out on that one, but I think there are plenty of strong Batman stories, including some recent work like Morrison's run. I'm not really trying to criticize it, I'm more saying that, as someone who has also read a lot of Batman, I think there are quite a few runs just as good if not better than Snyder's. My problem is not with the praise Snyder's getting, more with the fact that I think other runs are getting overlooked when people say The Black Mirror was the best story in decades and other such superlative statements. I enjoy Miller, Moore, and Loeb's work tremendously too, but I have the same problem with the way those works are sometimes praised at the expense of other great ones.

With the first arc complete I give it a 3. Before issue 8 it would have been a 2 based on how the fist arc played out. So far the quality of the plot has been greatly outdistanced by the quality of the writing, but we are starting to see signs of things evening out...to the good side :-)

I vote above average. There's an organic feel to Scott Snyder's writing that I like. He's a world-builder, and I love how he was able to put Batman on edge and make him reassess his previously unchanging beliefs about his city. But after issue 5, I felt that his writing (especially the anecdotes) were becoming too derivative. Scott might already be showing his limits as a writer, though he might have have a few nasty surprises up his sleeve as we wind down to the end of the arc. But still, Batman is the most well-written and most exciting Bat title in the DCnU and I'm looking forward to the Night of the Owls event.

I would disagree. IMO Black Mirror was a masterpiece while Court of Owls just seems average in comparison. I'm waiting for Snyder's 2nd arc already.

Yeah, I'm a huge Snyder fan, but I see what you guys are saying. His 'Tec run is much better than what's happened so far in the new 52, but I'd still give it 4 stars.

I haven't read Batman in years...upon years. The only times I've read Batman on a regular basis was when Alan Davis was on Detective and when Norm Breyfogle was on the book. I've picked up a couple of issues here and there (mostly when Huntress showed up) but never read that much. Dont even have any trades. He's not a character I have clicked with in comics much at all. Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl (both of them), Catwoman, Birds of Prey...I've always found his satellite characters to be more interesting. Until now. I bought the Black Mirror trade and then went back and got Batman from #1 on. For me, with Batman/Bruce, it's not about the character but rather the story and dilemma he's put in and Snyder has really excelled as far as I am concerned.
I dont like these polls where we rate the writer against other DC writers...that's hardly a fair assertion. But rating Snyder's stories on the basis of his ability to tell a story and keep my interest in a character I have never really cared for in comics...that's definitely a 5 star review from me.
