Probably worth atleast one full watching in theatre, but I can already tell, the rebooted Spider-Man / Peter Parker, does not have even 1% of the heart of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies.

These movies look to be a huge improvement over the Raimi series. I loved the first two Spidey movies, but I don't think they'll be able to compare with this new series.

but that's because the Raimi movies were bright and shiny. plus they showed the twin towers and had all of the new yorkers acting patriotic/rooting for the titular hero. plus there's the music.

The Raimi movies were popcorn fun, but I was beyond ready for a fresh take on the character.

If Sony hadn't stepped in and forced Raimi to use characters he didn't want to use yet, he could still be at the helm and we could now be waiting for Spiderman 5, not a reboot of the franchise. His first two were arguably the best Superhero films made to date.

He had the right idea, the studio screwed him over.

Though I liked Spider-Man 2, I never thought they got Spidey's character right. This trailer looks more like the Spider-Man film I wanted in the first place.

Phil, I pretty much agree. The studio generally and probably Avi Arad in particular. Raimi being told to use a character he didn't want to use at all couldn't have helped things. Of course the Harry-amnesia thing was still pretty lame and I don't think we can blame the studio for that. I look back on the Raimi-films and think it was too bad Franco ended up with Harry written that way because I thought Franco was a decent casting pick for Harry.

While it is all conjecture, the amnesia angle may have been the best way to deal with the story Raimi was forced to tell given the characters he was forced to use. We would have seen a wildly different film if Raimi had been left to his own devices and allowed to tell the story he wanted to tell using the characters he wanted to use. You cannot shoehorn Venom into a film that was not designed to present him well. And making a film maker use a character they despise means they likely will only hit the broad strokes of what they know about the character instead of giving them the loving adaptation that Doc Ock got.

A leopard can't change it's spots. Spider-Man is a bright and shiny character. To make a dark Spider-Man movie makes no sense whatsoever. Batman...yes, Spider-Man...no. Not all superhero movies work well using the Dark Knight template. This movie is going to fail for that very reason.

Yeah, Spider-Man is all about lightness, what with his dead parents, murdered uncle, murdered college sweetheart, best friend with the murderous psycho father (who murdered his college sweetheart), best friend who becomes a drug addict and then a murderous psycho, to say nothing about his long history of failed relationships and money problems. That's real bright and shiny.

So you're saying Spider-Man is dark like Batman? He's a mental case in a costume? No, Spider-Man is different and everyone knows it. Comics have drama, as do movies, but to divert from the Raimi Spider-Man template, is a mistake, IMO. That was as dark as Spider-Man movies should be.

Guaranteed, if this movie is dark, Spidey's humor will clash with that mood. Can't mix the two, it just doesn't work.

The scene with Spider-Man in the back seat of the car berating the car thief worked for me. No reason to think the humor won't work elsewhere in the film.

Looks so much better than the Raimi films. We just need JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson!
Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, Professor X, Mar-Vell, Richard Rider- Bring Them Back!!!
