The thing is, Superman and Batman never felt THAT integral to JSA, compared to the likes of the rest of the JSA-ers. I can see the case for Wonder Woman, but that's it.

But that would really seem to defeat the purpose of introducing an "Earth-2" book. Earth-2 has traditionally been where all the Golden Age characters actually existed.

If they want to introduce a world with "a whole new bunch of never before seen heroes", why not call it something like "Earth-50"?

Not to be insulting or anything, but it seems you made your remark without knowing any background then.

I don't want to give you a lecture or anything, but the basic information involves:
(1.) DC has been publishing comic books since the 1930's.
(2.) Towards the end of the Great Depression, and as the world was becoming involved in World War 2, there were a lot of comic book stories with various superheroes. This was later known as the Golden Age in comic books.
(3.) Towards the late 1940's, many of these superheroes fell out of favor, and towards the early 1950's, only some (like Superman, Batman & Robin, and Wonder Woman, plus a few others) were still being published.
(4.) In the mid-to-late 1950's, DC started publishing stories with some new superheroes. Some of them were characters based in part on the no-longer-published Golden Age characters. This was the start of what was called the Silver Age.
(5.) It was revealed that the stories with these Golden Age heroes were the comic book stories that one of these newer characters (Barry Allen, The Flash) had read about when he was younger.
(6.) A few years later, they decided to have a story where Barry Allen met his namesake, the Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick). It turned out that instead of just being a comic book character, Jay was really from an alternate Earth, called Earth-2. (Barry was said to be living on Earth-1.)
(7.) It then became a tradition that ALL those Golden Age stories with various characters had actually occurred on Earth-2, and many other Silver Age characters eventually met their Golden Age counterparts.
(8.) The meetings of the Golden Age characters and Silver Age characters became an annual feature in the pages of Justice League of America for two decades.
(9.) Then, in 1985-1986, DC had a big event called Crisis on Infinite Earths, which eliminated all the various parallel multiple Earths, and merged aspects of many of them into a single Earth.

So, Earth-2 had been a part of DC for many, many years. So understandably, older readers are expecting / hoping that some aspects of that world will be returning in the book Earth-2.

I think that's the mindgame they're playing as they roll out the new Earth-2. They know many of us are expecting something more or less based on the Earth-2 we knew before, or the characters we associate with the old Earth-2. But I think it's really a blank slate. They're teasing certain expectations by using character names that make us think of the old days -- Karen Starr, Ted Grant, Alan Scott -- but I have a feeling this is something new.

it was a suggestion mate, thats it.

just because earth 2 has been primarily used for a certain thing over the years it does not mean in the dcnu that it cannot be used for a different purpose, and just because older readers are expecting something does not mean it is going to happen.

since we know nothing about the new earth 2 my suggestion is completley valid and it could well of been used.

not everything will stay the same forever.

This is true . . . I was just explaining why to many long-time readers, totally discarding Earth-2's past to just create a bunch of new heroes without the connections would seem like DC was playing us for fools and didn't care a damn about loyalty . . . to me, it would be even worse than what they did when they threw away a lot of past history to sort-of-but-not-really-kinda-==-soft-rebootie-that's-not-really-in-our-opinion-a-reboot the DC Universe when they unveiled the changes for the DCnU.

I'm afraid to say it then, but I personally think that this new DCNU Earth 2 will just be your standard run of the mill alternate universe where things are slightly different and various characters either look different (see Wonder Woman on the cover of the 'Earth 2' solicit: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=36966) or are different people (Jay Garrick etc.). I don't think this will have anything to do with the whole Golden Age/Silver Age/Bronze Age timeline... But I could be wrong.

But what they've shown is a variant cover, not even the real, main cover. Who knows yet what will really be the story.

For example, this was the variant cover to Action Comics 5.

That had nothing to do with the real story inside. (And, boy, did that bum me out! )
