Seems like it would work pretty well. Even if Superman had to leap into action in a moments notice he'd be able to brush off the picnic crumbs in like two seconds flat and then reattach it to his person and then *foosh* fly off.

There's no doubt she would. In fact, I bet they'd use his cape to set it down to go bang in the park when their feeling adventurous and afterwards, covers it against her nude body. Hey, she's wrapped herself up with it before!

Why would she suggest that when it would make more sense for her to get on top while Supes kinda floats above the ground. That way nobody gets any grass stains AND Supes doesn't have to dirty his cape.

Brush the crumbs off NOTHING! First law of inertia, baby! He'd grab that cape so quickly the picnic wouldn't move, the crumbs would remain stationery, and the ants would be left clinging to cold air before falling to the ground and asking themselves 'WTF?!' Potato salad smears? Another story...

I don't think she has, though ... I know it's been used as a blanket to keep her warm, but I know nothing of picnicking uses...
