Just an Amazon sister of Diana, daughter of Hippolyta and some dude (maybe an updated Prince Theno?). Easy.

Only you can set you free.
Reload her at Nightwing's age, with her Silver Age origin, ..but, with a twist.
A teenaged Diana and the Amazons rescue an infant girl named 'Donna' from a fire, aboard a time-lost sea ship (the Troy) from the 1600s, ..maybe, headed for or from America! Diana loves little Donna on sight, and Hippolyta raises Donna as an Amazon princess, with Diana as her big sister.
As both grow up with a feeling of being outsiders among the Amazons, Diana and Donna have a special bond, and they spend the last years of Diana's Amazon training, together - Donna gaining Amazon powers through training. Somehow, through some supernaturally catastrophic event, young Donna is lost and awakens in modern day Man's World, where she joins the original Teen Titans and grows up with Nightwing, Arsenal and Kid Flash.
Bringing Donna from the historical past eliminates the need for a human origin or birth-parents, because they're long dead anyway. She was a baby the Amazons found on a burning ship, who doesn't remember her birth-parents, and that is the end of that - nice and clean.
It should also be established that Donna has laid down her Wonder Girl mantle and is, somewhere, living as a mortal, American woman. Why, we don't yet know.
No Titans of Myth. No Staceys and Hinckleys!

From the Golden Age of comics, the film short they don't want you to see... WONDER BOY LIVES!
Put her onto Earth-2 (along with Wally West and Kyle Rayner). And then give her the same origin as before - saved from a fire by the Earth-2 Wonder Woman and then raised on Paradise Island etc.

Interesting that you have a problem with the Staceys and Hinkleys. Is it the whole combination of birth-mother and foster parents?
I mean, I can see what they were going for - given the story, they had to give us the birth-mother, but having the birth-mother still around would have created a diversion for Donna that they didn't want. But giving her a family with a limited connection such as "temporary foster family" then that adds some flavor without tying her down.
So it might have been cleaner to just figure out who her birthmother was and that she had passed and been done with it. But I can't imagine going through all that and Donna never even getting to know anything about her birthparents.
Perhaps as an adoptee who has met his birthparents, I have a different perspective :)
Why can't Donna be Diana's daughter . . . by Zeus?![]()
Up until "Who The &#@% Is Donna Troy?", she was an American orphan, who was adopted and trained by Amazons, and it was a very simple story. We assumed that her birth-parents died in a horrible fire, and we were all fine with that idea, and that was the end of it. We didn't need Marv Wolfman digging any deeper and giving her living adoptive parents, who only had her for five minutes.
When Marv Wolfman was finished, Donna had an birth-mother, who died of cancer, some adoptive parents, who were still alive, and she had some dead adoptive gangster parents, who burned up in a fire. Do you realize what a mess that was to revise, after the Crisis? That Donna Hinckley-Stacy-Troy is the whole reason we needed a second clean-up, with "Who The &#@% Is Wonder Girl?" and that stupid Titans of Myth crap? Because the WW editors wouldn't let him retcon out "Who The &#@% Is Donna Troy?" and "Who The &#@% Is Wonder Girl?", John Byrne wasted ninety-nine percent of his run trying to clean-up the mess those stories made, ..creating an even bigger mess.
Marv Wolfman screwing with Donna Troy's origin in NTT, in "Who The &#@% Is Donna Troy?", added depth to her backstory, ..but, for what? Was it worth it? Who needs all that crap?
Give me a simple story, with Donna being an orphan, adopted and trained by the Amazons, and I'm happy.

She could once have been a clay statue. That origin is no longer taken. In fact, she could have been the source of the story Hippolyta once heard and used in her lie to Diana. (Thus giving a (tenuous) link between Diana and Donna.)
That would be correct.
Marv Wolfman was the person that gave Donna her original origin in the first place. He only embellished it a little more, which didn't take away anything from her being the adoptive daughter and sister to Hippolyta and Diana respectively.
I like Donna's connection to the Titans of Myth and still think she can keep her original origin. Just have Rhea be the one to save her from the fire and then turn her over to Hippolyta and the Amazons to be raised. Hippolyta would know that baby Donna would be destined as one of the "seeds" to someday replace the Titans of Myth. This would not change any of her history with the Amazons or the Teen Titans.
Short and simple.
Some favorite panels of mine with Donna and the Titans of Myth from the Wolfman/Perez NTT era.
after battle ...when the Titans come to their senses
