Last I checked, a increase of up to 25% on the omnibus line is what most people would consider a 'dramatic cost increase'. In other words, the Masterworks books aren't exactly keeping prices from rising anyways, so saying we need them to prevent cost increases seems a little silly to me.
Marvel cosmic needs Jim Starlin back. As long as he is prohibited from using the word 'myriad' ever again.

Right, it seems like Marvel will keep going until the online discount price is what we would've paid cover originally.

He's probably referring to the plethora of $125 omniboo that have been coming out recently (also the $150 omniboo). Not to mention with the decreasing of Silver Age Omniboo from 4 Masterworks to only 3 for a $100 omnibus, you are now paying $3.33 per issue versus only $2.50 an issue.

The only line wide increase I see is on the >1000 page books and the X-Tax and neither of those are to cover restoration costs. John Carter is a book that costs 100 when it should cost 75. I'm guessing thats your restoration tax. If the Masterworks weren't there for this material then you'd see that applied to all SA and BA books.

There are only two Silver Age omnibuses that have four Masterworks, ASM Vol 1 and UXM. With ASM they included a fourth MMW so it would cover the whole Ditko run, with UXM it was probably because the early UXM MMWs were so thin (it would have had less than 600 pages if they only used the first three). Three MMW per omni has been the norm for five years and goes back as far as the first ever omnibus, Fantastic Four Vol 1.

I'm not, but if I had known say Death of Cap omni was on the brink of oop, I'd have bought it then since it is a book I want instead of seeing prices for 70+ and shaking my head....

Do you think they'll put the X-Tax on the Uncanny X-Men Vol 2 Omnibus? If they did won't that be less than a 1,000 pages for $125 of Masterworks material? or do you think omniboo will be more like $150 by the time it comes out?

With Marvel charging $125 for the Claremont/Lee 'boo vols 1 and 2, I am confident that they will charge a msrp of at least $125 for Uncanny 2 'bus.

    Especially considering the demand.

I finally bought the X-Statix omnibus from the cgn sale. I would have preferred AOA or Claremon/Lee 2 but not bad for a third choice. Never read any of the material so should be a fun read. Also ordered Batman Knightfall volume 1. I know the quality is low but it is over 600 pages and finally complete. I always hope Marvel would do this for second or third rate material. I would buy a lot of the Essentials at this price and in color.

Other thoughts. Marvel's new pricing in general has caused me to go to TPBs and only get HC if they are OSHC or omnibus. The premiere line for X titles is overpriced for the low page count. Oh well.

I was at HPB and picked up Excalibur Classic vol 1, X-Treme X-Men volumes 1 and 2. That only leaves volume 4 for XX.

Avengers film was a blast. Just hearing my son and daughter flipping out over all the cool parts was worth every penny. :)

And people will continue to pay when it's OOP and over cover.
