Just snagged a sealed Captain Britain omni for $90 shipped. Wasn't planning on buying anything today but sometimes stuff just pops up.

Edit: looks like they put another up at the same price.

I see it, now that you mention it. A dog would need a thumb to hold a pencil in order to draw better than a modern JRJR. And who has ever seen a dog with a thumb?

His drawings, and I'm not hyperbolising, look like a better colored version of the stuff me and my friends used to draw in middle school. Some artists I don't like but I could see why others do, I just don't get why anyone likes him. But a lot of people like do so shows what I know.

I did like the stuff he did in UXM back in the day, the pre 200's UXM run. Lets get an omni of that stuff. That would be about 20 issues right?
He drew issues all the way up to Mutant Massacre, with a couple of issues drawn by other artists near the end of his run. It'd be like #176 through 209. That could fit into an omnibus, right?

By replying I do realize that I'm certinaly not helping get this thread back on topic any quicker, but hey, this is a good discussion and JRjr's art is featured in a lot of recent OHC/Omni collections.....

Right. So anways, I don't have a problem with JRjr's backgrounds action sequences, or any of that. The man can draw RAIN and the man can draw DESTRUCTION like nobody's business! But the one thing I ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY cannot stand, and what has gotten worse and worse (my opinion at least) over time are the FACES he draws. I mean come on, who or what is he using for face models? Everyone has the same face in his books: Ladies, kids, men, super-heroes, Aunt May, dogs, horses, villans, folks in backgrounds, Mephisto, everyone. It's the same ugly face over and over.

And it's gotten worse over the years. Yes, as you said, his early-to-mid '80s stuff is better. UXM, ASM, Iron Man, whatever. Even his late '90s run on Peter Parker was.....tolerable. Lately? Not so much.

Another notable artist I remember that drew faces exactly the same regardless of the character, book, or context was Alex Ross. His Joker looks like the Flash who looks like Green Lantern who is the same guy that modeled Captain America....whatever, I'm paraphrasing, and don't have his work here directly in front of me as I type this, but you catch my meaning. At least Alex Ross can draw & paint.

    JRjr...yeesh.

It sure would. Then that would just leave UXM 132-175 (139-175 if you take into account the DPS HC) for collection. Make omnis out of the remaining 40 ish issues and we have ourselves a great X-Men collection all in over-sized hardcover format.

Unless I am missing something, which is likely since I don't map ever.

I think JRJR is hit or miss. His Avengers stuff post-Siege has had some good looking stuff and some very bad looking faces. Kick-Ass looks pretty good...

I think some of the stuff JRjr is doing lately is rushed.
Also, I think his work really relies on a good inker. His work looks better under Klaus Janson, for instance, than other inkers. I'm not reading AvX so I don't know who is inking that.

Kick Ass looks way better than his other stuff from the same period.

I think things are drifting off course a bit. Avengers vs. X-Men has yet to be collected, so discussing it here is a bit odd, no?

If you'd like to discuss JRJR's art in collected editions, go on ahead. If you want a more general discussion of his art, it would be better to start a new thread.

We were told we could link Amazon, especailly to prove items becoming available. Why are people so intent on making things difficult?
Marvel cosmic needs Jim Starlin back. As long as he is prohibited from using the word 'myriad' ever again.

    Two omnibus notes:

    1) Amazon currently has FF by Byrne for 48% off

    2) For those of you (like me) who want ASM v2 but hate the Ramos cover (i.e. the one that Amazon, B&N, etc will have), you'll probably want to order the DM cover ASAP. Tales of Wonder (ToW) has already sold out

    Good luck!

How is the Byrne FF run? Never really cared for FF...but then again, never really read anything that good. But I do like Byrne.

It's pretty definitive FF, and Byrne at the top of his game. My personal favorite work of his that wasn't a collaboration. I like the back half of his run more than the material collected in the omni, but it's still better than 99% of other comics of it's era.

I was not planning on buying this right now but I guess I probably should since CGN still has them.
