I'm sure it's a mix. Some probably arrived to them slightly damaged or were damaged in the warehouse. With the packing there is no doubt they are being damaged coming from BN. Also they more likely than not do resell returns, I'm sure a lot of what is returned by guys in this thread are considered perfectly acceptable to BN.

FWIW, I just contacted B&N on chat and had them send a replacement for my copy. When I get around to returning mine, I'll slip a tiny post-it note inside the cover of the book (the shrink-wrap was damaged so this is possible) saying something like..."Damaged and returned on 3/27/2012". If one of you end up with this copy, please inform the forum and we'll definitely know that B&N is just cycling through damaged stock ;)

For the record, that copy looks pretty demolished to me. I have no delusions that mine was only minorly damaged, but I'd have a really hard time picking your copy up and enjoying the read. Maybe that says more about my own OCD than B&N's packaging, but I don't know how that can be considered acceptable in any way.

It is an interesting question whether they are taking pristine, new copies from the warehouse and ruining them in shipping, or if they really are just redistributing previous returns and calling them "new". It is curious that all these damaged copies have coincided with the lowest price-drop for the title to date...

Lobdell's Excalibur was also solid but he was just there to hold the fort until they got a permanent writer.

All those 90's X-Men crossovers you're buying up in Omni/HC format, you can also thank him for being the head of.

Dude dealt with so much editorial and was captaining the most popular comic in the world. Deserves so much credit in hindsight but the people who loooovvvve Claremont (who sucked during the entire 80's) won't give it to him. For real, Claremont's dialogue is the most cringe-worthy parody prose of all-time. He's his own "poor version of Claremont" from #215-280 and that's not even mentioning the awful "Neo" runs nor X-Men Forever, two abominations.

Sure, not everything was a hit. But Lobdell had a ton of home runs. So much stuff was even used in the Animated Series, I loved when the modern tales would get turned into episodes.

Fatal Attractions and Age of Apocalypse, Lobdell's ideas, were greater than anything Whedon could devise. Sorry!

I agree he doesnt get enough credit. He helped keep the franchise going and he got thh job by accident when he was in the marvel offices to talk to someone else entirely.

It was off diamond's list completely so maybe the just estimated a date until a real one was released.

I agree with most of what you said. I like Lobdell. I haven't read any of those old stories in a while so we'll see how I feel about FA now but in the past I loved those stories.

The only thing I do not agree with is your last statement. You don't earn name recognition like Whedon has for being bad at your craft. There is a reason you'll find more people who know Whedon then Lobdell.

To be honest, the collection I want most right now is NOVA. I'd have to spend around $80 to get the 4 tpbs I'm missing or spend about the same on the singles. Nova is in that category of really good but not popular so if you want to get into it after its run then you're kind of SOL.

Would love to get another NOVA OHC or an omni. Better yet, a series of omnis covering the whole Marvel Cosmic from Annihilation through to Thanos Imperative with all crossovers and tie-ins. How great would that be? I'll answer that; it would be very great.

Amazon's help desk is actually quite helpful. For my last two orders, which amounted for $280 (including shipping), they ended up refunding $110 because I gave them hell for some dings in my books and some nasty cuts in the 4 final pages of the Companion book from Dark Tower Omnibus.

YES!!! i love marvel cosmic and would buy everyone of those omnibus' in a second. Classic Nova to Modern. That probably 3 books and a guardian of the galaxy classic (including Rocket the Racoon mini) to modern, probably another 3. not to mention other silver surfer, capt. marvel, etc. so much, so little time...

Did you individually sell them on ebay? or in one lot? Also, I'm unsure as to how to list the books that I bought as overstock items with the black mark at the top. Technically, it's no longer "New" but "Like New", right?

I'm really annoyed at Marvel for omnibus'ing stuff that's already in OHC's, and putting people like me in this situation >:(
I sold the books as a group on Ebay. Please note that I did lose some money on the books but I am ok with it to upgrade to the Omnibus version.

Just be honest in your listing and mention the remainder marks plus take a couple of nice photos of the books to show the buyer exactly what they are getting (condition wise).

Do the auction as a buy it now and set the price on what you realistically think you can get for it. If you go the auction route I would not start it at a low price as I see so many people get burned with selling at a super low price as not enough people were interested to bid it higher.
