Well today is a disappointing day for me. The Knightfall New Edition TPB finally came out and it uses that crappy newspaper real type paper. Out of all the omnibus being released getting a complete collection of Knightfall was the thing I was most looking forward to. Then DC pulls that crap of using the cheap crappy paper. Using that paper was the only thing that was going to stop me from buying this release and that is exactly what happened.
Im glad Marvel GETS IT in terms of using quality paper that is more than capable of looking good.
I often question Marvel for the amount of content and what they charge in an omnibus, but I NEVER have to be concerned about the actual quality of paper in their hardcovers.
Sorry for the rant, but sometimes you are so pissed you just have to share it.
Before people scream "off topic" sometimes you have to see things being done the WRONG way before you can appreciate those who do it the right way.
Thank you Marvel for using high quality paper in your omnibus and comics in general.

That could be what Marvel is doing and if so I'll be disturbed to say the least. The only necessary material for the HC is the USM issues (320 pages) and around 64 pages of relevant material from Fallout and UAvNU. The pagecount for the omnibus means the USM issues, the entirety of UAvNU (which is stupid to include) and the entirety of Fallout (add up the pagecounts of all the trades and you'll get 600). Please Marvel, don't do this, its stupid.
I was surprised at the paper quality as well. The new volume is essentially a reprint of the two old Knightfall TPB's, plus Batman 491 + the Vengeance of Bane one-shot. Including the crappy newsprint-ish paper.
I don't mind, honestly. It's how the issues were originally published. Except for maybe the Shadow of the Bat tie-in issues...which as I recall were originally printed on glossier/upgraded paper. I can't be 100% since I haven't read the original issues since they were first published nearly 20 years ago.
Either way, it was a perfect opportunity to upgrade the quality of these stories and DC struck out again.
DC has a habit of striking out when it comes to their collected editions. I'm holding out hope that someday they'll get it right and we'll get Knightfall in some sort of OSHC format, as well as No Man's Land and other Batman stories.
The Ultimate Death of Spider-man Omnibus sounds ok to me. I have the first 11 (soon to be 12) OSHC's and finishing them off with DoSM would be fine.
So Friday is going to be a big Marvel event day for me.
Just got the email from Amazon that my ASM vol.2 omnibus should arrive Friday..just before I rush out to see The Avengers!!

Sucks dude. I remember getting the Superman: Our Worlds At War Omnibus TPB for like $5 on Amazon. The size of a Marvel Essential TPB, it included all 20 issues/tie-ins and made for good airport material. And then I realized why it was a $5 book, lol. The problem was... my hands were like turning black from flipping through it. I HATE that paper.
So yeah, in an age where we bash Marvel, at least they hook us up with some great paper. Even the Age of Apocalypse Prelude TPB which gets heat for crappy paper was still better than that.
This will be a good week for me comics-wise. Kree/Skrull wars comes tomorrow, X-Sanction will be here today and the original Rocket Racoon mini is a bargain book on Amazon so it will be here Thursday.
I like how quickly X-Sanction and AvX are being released and put in collected format.
That's what I think they're doing (I should have better explained what I meant by connected issues). If it's the Death of Spider-Man Omnibus, then they really do have to include all the issues that were branded and marketed as part of that event. No matter how tangentially it connects to it (yes UAvsNU, I'm looking at you...). Which is a little bit of a kick in the teeth for people who just bought the Miller Ultimate Avengers Omnibus.
All that said, it is still just conjecture at this point. It'll probably be included in the solicits later this month, so we'll know for sure then.
My comic collection. Go on, have a look. You know you want to.
Going Green for St Patrick's Weekend!
My wife keeps telling me how these superhero movies are getting tiresome, and how she is "over" the genre, but she still goes with me, and she'll even admit she enjoys them, just not as much as I do. This next week or so is gonna be really hard for me, as I don't plan on seeing the movie for a few weeks due to schedules. I've already seen two things spoiled for me (arghhh!!) and as such, I think I might end up ignoring this entire board (except for maybe this thread) until I see the movie, so I don't get anything else spoiled accidentally. Excited for all of you seeing it Thurs/Fri though.![]()
