Waid/Wieringo's run is in oversized hardcovers and, yes, ringo's art is...dare I say, Fantastic!

When it comes to post-2000 titles, this is a good rule of thumb:

Generally, HC books that collect a brief part of run that came out 2-6 months prior to their release are what's known as "Premier Hardcovers" (PHC). They will have a box somewhere on the cover that says "Premier Hardcover" inside of it." They aren't much larger than a comic book, and tend to go out of print relatively quickly - Marvel does not like to keep them in stock, and largely does not reprint them.

Any HC that is titled "Deluxe," that collects two or more prior TPBs or HCs, or that mirrors a TPB "Ultimate" edition will generally be an Oversized HC (OHC), which is the same height and page size as an Omnibus. These will be in stock longer than their PHC counterparts.

There are exceptions. Generally, major crossovers and event books release directly to OHC without ever hitting HC. Some books have no HC incarnation at all, instead going straight to TPB.

So I got all my must-own Omnis and OHCs and now I'm thinking of the AoA Omni again. Think it'll go down in price? Dunno how I feel about paying 80 bucks for one book, even though its gigantic.

I am waiting for the AOA omni to go WAY down as well. For 70 something bucks most places, as the owner of the trades there is zero incentive to go grab that one.

I also am waiting to see fall of the mutants come down too, but that is a book I am actually interested in.

I would absolutely ADORE a huge shelf full of Omnibus' of my favorite characters/teams. They would definitely be something I would love to collect.

Which ones are out of print? The first thing that drew me to Marvel comics was when I was a kid, I adored the X-Men cartoon (the 1992 one) and the later Spider-Man series. I bought the odd comic here and there, but I wasn't really old enough to know how to keep up. Recently, someone showed me this comic store and I fell in love all over again.

As I've just started reading Astonishing X-Men, I'll definitely check it out. I've been more focused on Spidey for the time being. I hope you don't mind me pulling up a list I'd love to read haha. I would definitely love all of the the Avengers, as well as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor & The Hulk individually. Of course, the X-Men (Definitely Chris Claremont's) and anything Wolverine. Clich, I know. :P Of course, The Amazing Spider-Man I would adore. Every X-Men comic EVER? Oh my, I'd love to see that.

The New Avengers are coming to Omnibus? I'm actually so excited. :D The fact that Spidey and Wolvie are in it REALLY drew me to it.
By the same size, you mean book-size right? Cause I would totally hate to have different sized books on my shelves. I'm so OCD about that. :(

Now, about the Oversized Hardcover's, are there print's of those in the comics I'm looking for that are also cheaper?

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I really appreciate it. :)

This is on the first page of this thread but you may not have seen it, links show which ones are out of print and which are available:

List of all Marvel Omnibus Editions:

List of all Marvel Oversized HCs(same book size as Omnis):

There are a few Omnibus that are also released in OHC, most are OOP though.

Interesting, I'll keep all of this in mind. Thank-you! What do you think would be the best approach to the original Spidey comics? They seem impossible to find.. Being in Canada and all, Amazon isn't the best option as it's double the price.

Ah, I didn't see this, thank you! This definitely gives me a better guide as to what I can get. I appreciate all this, really. :)

My best one was picking up the last copy in stock of X-Men V 1 at Amazon Japan the other month at below list price. Was happy about that!

Edit: I take it back - it was actually discovering the Marvel Omnibus program this year after a 20+ year comic hiatus. I am still like OMG this is just awesome, and I'd never dreamed of it.

Obviously the Omnibus, even if you have to pay over $150 for V1. V2 just got released and cheap at amazon so grap it NOW! Other than that, Masterworks.

My top five picks would be

    1. Spider-Man 2099 complete run

    2. Peter Paker The Spectacular Spider-Man vol 1 issues 1-40

    3. Brubaker Cap Vol 4

    4. Second print of the Ultimates. ( I'm desperate for this book and it's to expensive now )

    5. Uncanny X-Force issues 1 - 24
Now not buying floppies ever again and currently selling my whole collection. Hardcovers are the way forward.

Currently Reading. Spider-Man the complete clone saga epic Book 1 - 5

Their not wrong. Michilinie/Laytons runs were possibly the only Great classic Iron Man we have.

Isn't his run only in the first 2?

No, there is one issue of his in v.3 and at least one cover. But, that volume does collect some fantastic Herb Trimpe and Frank Springer art, so it's worth it to buy v.3.
