Yeah, but thats still a little out of my price range. Although if its there in a month I'll be jumping on it.

Are you serious!? Can't believe you didn't jump all over that. Buying all three separate is gonna cost me a freaking fortune.

Being patient and diligent always pays off. I finally found a copy of the red and black Miller DD omnibus for a price I was willing to pay this week. I didn't jump at the first one that came available. I waited and kept checking eBay and finally I found an affordable copy.
Here's the key: These are not unique items. There are thousands of copies out there, so, eventually, there will be another copy that will pop up for sale at an affordable price.

Tales of Wonder has several of those 372 copoies for sale on eBay for what is essentially half-price after shipping ($18 total on a $34.99 cover price).

Yes, I know. I bought a copy. I wonder if that is a price glitch.

That's interesting. Would that be the first time something is released straight from floppy to omni? I can't think of anything else that didn't have a tpb or HC of some sort released first.

Captain America: American Nightmare DM Edition

    335 copies

Edit: And by just talking about it, I finally caved. New sealed one is on the way via to my house new for $22.90 shipped from Ebay (standard is $6 on Amazon). Ah well, it'll be a curious rarity until they dip lower, I guess.

With that said, it does not speak well for the overall sales of these MPC editions (you'll notice on Amazon, they tend to be in "only ___ remaining" mode very quickly) so for us, the collector, the chances of getting MPCs for dirt cheap falls significantly. Well, the "bordered" variants anyway, which I collect (and look cool on the shelf).

Used to be 1500 variants printed, let alone the standards.

Now we're seeing like 400-500 for more obscure books (X-Force, West Coast, Dr. Strange) and dipping into the 300s.

Very true, but if you are going to release it as an OHC first at $75, might as well make it an Omnibus.

With the price increases on the MPCs bumping them up to $39.99 this fall, I have to wonder how much longer that line can last. It is a shame too, as I like both the variety of the line and also the fact that, in a few cases, they've tried to have complete runs on titles going. At the same time though, they have peppered it with a lot of stinkers and whereas I'm inclined to pick them up in the $5-$15 range online or at conventions, those opportunities would seem to be getting less common as the cover price rises.

I think the regular versions aren't ordered much higher than the variants, though. It's just that Marvel doesn't advertise how low the print runs are for the regular versions.

Yeah, those old MPC could be found pretty easily cheap. Now it's a pain, they go OOP too quickly.

I wonder if AWC: Zodiac Attack or Deathlok will fall below the 335 mark.

I just wish I had been able to get the Iron Monger MPC. For a while I was waiting for a collection of that story to come out, then I forgot about it and now I can't buy it. Pain in the ass.

I held off too long the Wolverine omnibus at CGN. It's up to $129 now, guess I won't be getting it. I hate how they raise the prices of oop items. They even have tpbs for outrageous prices the Daredevil bendis uc 2 is $70.

This is a good lesson to learn: Never hold off. You never know when what you've been waiting for will slip through your fingers.

Wow that Wolverine Omnibus sure is up in price, Im guessing it's OOP now? I remember seeing it available for so long at well under cover price. Could it be that the Marvel clear out at Diamond has stopped that "endless" supply?
