its almost worth getting at that price...
I wouldn't pay $20 for that, but that is a pretty good deal for anyone who wants them.

3 omnis seems like a lot in the first quarter. I worry that if I don't keep up with books as they come out that my back log will be so big with the current frequency of releases that stuff will go oop before I can get it.
re: The Avengers... It really depends on how much you want to see the Hulk hiding out in a circus as a robot clown. I mean, it gets better but... yeah, not that much.

I was eyeing that Lee/Kirby Cap recently, too, but decided I all I really wanted there was the Steranko issues. I just ordered Cap Masterworks vol 3, which I think I'll be more than happy with. Granted, not OHC, but signifigantly cheaper!

Cap, to help you save a few dollars.

B&N now has John Carter & Avengers in stock. Use coupon code U7K4X3B for 20% off or code X3X8W7N if you're using a Visa card for 20% off (Credit to Kodave for the codes).

So John Carter becomes $48.88 plus tax and Avengers becomes $47.86 plus tax.

But Dark Phoenix posted this morning that the Avengers Omnibus is at Instock for $50 with free shipping so if you decide on Avengers I would go with Instocktrades. Plus you get to choose which cover you want.

When AOA is released in another week or two you can get it for $62.34 plus tax if these 20% coupons still work. If not I am sure new coupons will be out there.

Granted the shipping is hit or miss but I have never had a problem getting a replacement sent. Even had to do a replacement twice on one of the titles.

It's really a strange hobby, isn't it? Maybe "strange" is not the right word... I mean, if you like music, or a lot of other media, it's not like you won't be able to get what you're looking for down the line. I mean, if you suddenly want to get the "Firefly" DVD, you'll be able to find it, even though it came out years ago. Or if you want to get a new copy of Pearl Jam "Vs" or something, you'll be able to find it. This omnibus hobby where things go OOP willy-nilly all the time is a royal PITA. Not being a collector, i could care less if the books rise in value over time due to being OOP, I just want the books to read them and have them, not flip them/sell them. My two cents. This forum sure keeps things up-to-date though. Trying to find your way through this omnibus hobby without the knowledge and nice folks in this forum would be VERY difficult - I know it was before I jumped on here.
It can be a downright addicting hobby for me and like you said unlike with movies or music CD's they can go OOP and become a pain to find. I go with the shoot first mentality meaning I get them all as they come out and not have to worry about a title going OOP. Of course I still try to find the best deals for each one and the flipping part really aids paying for them. No flipping would mean no to lots of titles.

Keeping a watchful eye on titles you want is always good as you can catch them before they go OOP. Just look for the trend of Amazon, B&N and TOW starting to sell out of them.

We have a lot more people in here now since the first thread which is great for finding deals and getting the best bang for our buck. Here is to this thread going up to Part XXV and beyond over the next few years.

What's even worse for me is, I have such a limited budget, around $100 a month for comics. I buy online, which helps a lot, but it's like, do I buy Absolute this or this Omnibus, or do I buy a bunch of cheaper HC's here and there?

I am bigger on the Marvel Premiere Classic line right now. I am going after the direct market variants. I have about 20 and another 15 on their way, some old and some new and now, I'm thinking about getting into the Marvel Masterworks HC's. As far as the MPC's go, I think I have a good chance of having all of them in the next year to two years. I have some of the harder to get ones and some are on their way.

    Comics kinda suck.

I wish they'd put the three Deadpool & Cable Ultimate Collections into Omnibuses.

Has there been any confirmation on an AoA companion book?

Heh, try buying with a 30 dollar a month budget. Now thats hell. I ordered the third Bendis DD UC for 20 bucks and I'm buying 10 bucks in floppies next week and thats all I get this month. And then theres the pressure of various omnis coming out, crossovers, lines you have to finish before they're entirely OOP (Jonah Hex!) and new stuff you want to try out (EC Annuals). So many sweet sweet temptations, but at the same time I bitch about not having any art supplies.

    None that I know of.

If it were to happen I would think it would have been solicited to come out not to long after the release of the AOA Omnibus, like how the X-men Claremont/Lee volumes did.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and the tips. Very tempted by the Avengers with that price but, as has been said here, I've seems maybe a bit to cheesey for me. I would love to get John Carter for $48.88 but I really don't like the non DM cover. B&N shows the classic cover for John Carter but that's not what they will ship, right? That AoA price looks really good though.

It appears none of the versions of John Carter have the classic comic book cover that B&N and Amazon have been using for the picture.

Here is the regular cover and what you would get from Amazon & B&N

Here is the cover for the Direct Market version.

I would gladly pay $20 for a few of them and flip them for $50 to $60

Yeah, my budget is around 60 dollars a month. I'd have it A LOT easier if I had 40 more dollars to play with every month. 30 a month and I'd likely just get out of the hobby altogether aside from occasional floppies. With books going OOP constantly I'm stressed enough with 60.
