Good interview. Go Bru go! Can't wait for the next issue from this stellar team.
I was already going to pick this up in trade, but knowing the Jasper Sitwell is in just ups the anticipation level.
I'd like someone to explain the closing page, because I didn't understand what was going on there with Doom.
One of the main goals of this book is to try and do a Marvel comic that really feels like it stands on its own. I'm trying as hard as possible not to use characters that are in other books. That way nobody has to worry about continuity and when this is happening in relation to X issue of another book.
In Ed I trust.
I was already on board for this, but am even more so now.
Very good and interesting commentary.
I also appreciate Ed not wanting to use characters populating other books.
Could make for some very interesting stories.
And I'm glad Nat will be on hiatus here and there. A very strong issue.
Wake me up when it's over...
The first issue blew past my already high expectations. Love the style and mood of it and the mix of grittiness and comic book-esque craziness. An amazing job by all involved.
This issue was incredible, exactly what ive been craving since cap came back. The art was spectacular and the direction of the book is just what I wanted. Bucky is my favorite Marvel super-hero, the ultimate underdog. I hope this goes for years, Thanks Ed and Butch and everyone involved.
It could be one of the Zephyr subjects actually taking a shot at Doom, or, or could be Von Bardas's wishful thinking imagining it happening.
If it was an actual incident, then the Zephyr subject took aim at Doom, but then changed his shot to a target that exploded, or, the shot stayed on Dooms eye, but Dooms eye automatically put up a safety barrier to stop the shot, and Doom sent a power beam back up to the shooter in retaliation.
Judging by Brubaker's last statement, that was an assassination attempt on Doom and it pisses him off rather than kills him. I'd like to see the gorillashouldering the cannon take a chance at him next.

"...Doom's enemies have not the mettle to challenge him host to host, tooth to nail... As economic and military options fail them, they resort to simple rudeness."
Stop using the "after the events of Fear Itself" excuse and say it for what it was "After Marvel Studios Captain America movie, Marvel forced Steve Rogers back into the role as to not confuse any new readers in an unnecessary move"
So it makes sense that Brubaker doesn't want to use characters that currently feature in other books, to avoid continuity issues. And also, Bucky's meant to be dead, and not many people will know otherwise. But, is Natasha not in one or two other books as a regular at the moment? That's going to cause confusion if she's supposed to be with Bucky, getting her espionage on.
And with Black Widow appearing in the Avengers movie, I can't help but worry that Marvel will try to mover her away from Bucky and into a more prominent Avengers role. Which would just be annoying.
This was a great first issue, though, and Ed has a lot of interesting stuff to say in this article.
