Default I haven't heard one sensible reason why DC shouldn't do Before Watchmen

They are a business. Their job is to create stories that will generate a continued interest from us. They only do this to make money. And no matter how many people who read DC books complain, they will still buy it and it will be a huge success. I understand why Alan Moore is upset (as usual) about them expanding the story he created, but he wrote it for DC. They have every right to do whatever they want with it. I would have rathered they left Watchmen alone, but I'm cautiously optimistic about it. C'mon, Azzarello writing Rorshach, that's sounds awesome

comic readers' complaints are rarely reasonable anyway...
Comics were happier before the Internet turned writing superhero stories into fruitless attempts to impress/entertain a small group of ppl who appear to hate comics and their creators.

Comics as a whole is borrowing taking older ideas and reusing them. If Alan Moore didn't want that to happen then he shouldn't have gotten into comics.
Im even saying I'm going to buy any of the issues. I just think its wrong to side with him. You can still do fine with only reading Watchmen. Just because they are making prequels doesn't mean you need to believe that they are canon. Watchmen will always be unique and original. Even with these prequels.

It doesn't bother me. It's not going to ruin the book everyone has sitting on their shelf.

DC knows about 80% of this whole board will probably end up getting at least one of them. I can't wait to see the sales for June or whenever they're coming out. It's going to be hilarious.

Why would it ruin the original? They are different books in different eras. I could easily not pick up these prequels and still appreciate Watchmen as I know it.
Its like saying Spiderman 3 ruined 1 and 2

The only reason I've seen that's somewhat valid is this one:

Which is patently ridiculous, because Spider-Man 3 made 1 and 2 more awesome for their association with it.

Regardless, I think DC is making a fundamentally flawed decision in assuming people want to read anything more about the self-absorbed jackbags from "Watchmen". Could barely stand the cretins the first time out.

Because they're sitting on a commodity with an existing audience as opposed to a new creation with no history at all?

With the creative muscle on this project and the willingness to market like crazy I think it's possible to produce a hit.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

Word. Plus, it's easy $ for DC. Very practical business move.

Did anyone play the PS3 Watchmen prequel game? It was fun and the story was pretty cool. Not the groundbreaking masterpiece the original series was, but fun.

The creative teams for Before Watchmen are top notch, and they didn't try to do a direct sequel. That much I can respect.

Cautiously optimistic. It can't be worse than Countdown to Final Crisis or Bloodlines... can it?

That's not a valid reason for not doing before Watchmen. Among the many reasons why is that it assumes that doing before Watchmen and producing new material are somehow mutually exclusive goals when, of course, they aren't. DC can do (and is doing) both.

I think it's possible that they'd make a great comic.

I think it's even more possible that they'd make a great comic and most readers would ignore it.

The "next" Watchmen? Considering that Watchmen is now 25 years old I'd like to think that we've had our fair share of groundbreaking works since then.

I hope DC follows this up with Moby Dick 2 like Moore suggested.
