Thoroughly enjoyed issue #7 of Transformers: More than Meets the Eye. I like how James Roberts can weave serveral story threads within the one issue. Moving from the horror of the DJD, to the suspense aboard the lost light and to the Red vs Blue style of antics on Clemency.

Fulcrum and Misfire. Or as I like to think of them, Doc and Grif.

Cannot wait for the next issue.

I've been hearing lots of good stuff about the Transformers books. Is "More than Meets the Eye" a good jumping on point? Any other books I should try out? Do I need to get a lot of back issues, or other series to enjoy the current stuff?

Yeah, the two new series, More than Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise, are both designed to be new jumping on points for new readers. You don't need a full knowledge of what happened previously in the IDW Transformers books. Look for the first collective trades of MTMTE and RID. I would also recommend picking up a copy of Last Stand of the Wreckers.

Can someone give me the low down on what Robots in Disguise and More Then Meets the Eye cover? I gather they take place in the same continuity; and one is about a group of Autobots lost in space, and the other about the remaining Autobots trying to forge peace on Cybertron in the wake of their teammates disappearance? Have I got that right?

EDIT: And both titles spun out of Last Stand of the Wreckers?

Both MTMTE and RID spun out of the pervious Transformers series published by IDW. That series ended with a one-shot called The Death of Optimus Prime.

MTMTE is about a crew of Autobots, travelling to the far corners of space, to find the mythical Knights of Cybertron, in an effort to restore the planet to it's former glory.

RID, written by John Barber, is about what is happening on Cybertron, as Autobots, Decepticons and Neutrals try to form a government and rebuild the planet and their society.

MTMTE has a Farscape/Lost in Space/Voyager vibe to it, while RID has a more political dramatic beat to it, say like DS9.

Last Stand of the Wreckers was a limited series, written by James Roberts (who is also writing MTMTE), and it was published a few years ago, when the ongoing Transformers series was being produced. Some of the current story threads in MTMTE are picking up on ideas and threads from LSOTW.

But the good thing about the writing styles of James Roberts and John Barber, is that you don't have to already be versed in what has previously been published by IDW, as everything is explained and revealed along the way.

Would a new Beast Wars series following an IDW continuity, instead of the cartoon be a good idea?

Depends how they handle it, personally I wouldn't mind seeing G1 versions of Waspinator, Tarantulas, and a few others pop up in the comics. And I don't mean like what they did with Sharkbite.

I noticed the Classics TPBs the other day for a pretty reasonable price. For someone who doesn't have nostalgia on his side, is the original Marvel series worth reading?

I maybe completely biased, but I think they are great reads. Even though I have drifted in and out of comics and actually grew up and became an adult some how in the last 20 years, I still have carried that short box full of my complete Marvel TF comics around with me (only comics that are still with me).

I love the heroic original Bots last stand, the Rachet against the World stories, Optimus's simulated death and download to a floppy, I love the Grimlock Leader of the Autobots, the Headmasters series, the Auto vs Auto and the Con vs Con stories (huge epic battles).. Furman's Unicron story was also epic. There are several more (Car Wash of Doom anyone? )

All great. I would highly recommend them.

Cool. My 'light reading' pile is down to just a couple of Marvel Masterworks, so will probably pick up the first Classics TPB to read once those are done. Cheers :)
