Because homophobia currently has too many undesired implications to be of use.

Essentially, the desired word should be an antonym for xenophobia; xenophilia- based on other uses of the philia / phobia roots- counts as a antonym, but would mean "attraction to difference"- which isn't the same.

That's pretty smart: As he points out a few pages later, he's been doing this for ten years and that's apparently his first successful kill of a member of Sonic's group. Sure, it would be more ego-fulfilling to let his new model of the fancy combat robot that's repeatedly failed before try to win first... But blowing it up while they're grappling is an almost guaranteed kill. And it paid off.

He then immediately backs off to celebrate, reasoning that after a decade without this kind of success he's better off not pushing his luck and enjoying it while it lasts.

Also, he's recently turned Sonic's girlfriend into a brainwashed war robot, so apparently he's on a completely unprecedented winning streak.
