I think they may have somewhat more gender neutral names then English, but there are certainly a lot of gender specific names - anything ending with "ko" will be a girl's name, for example.

Also, names can have radically different meanings depending on the spelling. So, even if a girl and a boy have the same name, they can spell it differently.

What about Toriko? He's a very muscular guy who drinks a lot and eats WAY more, and hunts monsters (which he eats) by punching and kicking them to death. When he's not fighting guys who spit up terrifying bugs or contort their bodies in unnatural ways so they can wear other people like clothes.

You can be manly and still have a girl's name.

Nearly anyone called Nemesis, for example.

Hrmm... No, I think I prefer the "The ultimate meaning of the universe is Twilight's ass" interpretation.

In this case, Akio translates to "glorious hero" whereas Aiko means "love child."

I suspect a lot of this just comes down to wether the Japanese thinks the name sounds girly or manly or neither. "Makoto" just means "sincere" and both girls and boy can have it. "Usagi" means "rabbit" and while I think you can theoretically name a boy Usagi, it's probably rare.

*shrug* Probably comes down to what exactly the name means and how it is spelled. Japanese naming conventions are tricky.

Gotta say, I wouldn't be remotely put off by a girl wanting to cosplay Terezi, smear my face with red crayon and lick it back off.

Super Sayian says DBZ abridged 29 is out now. It has lots of lol.
Yeah I give up. They would need like a bajillion UNs to take it out. And they would all have to work.

    Or Artemis.

Or Sue. At least according to the Johnny Cash song.

A lot of people get sentience confused for sapience. Your hamster is sentient, you are sapient. Intelligence is sapience.
