Me too. Reading Gillen's response, I don't know if he would define "good moments" the way we would. He mentioned that she has had "more than her share" of big moments....and I'm like really??? In what issue? Because I haven't seen very many big moments for Storm, and I wouldn't define her questioning Cyclop's about being a villain or lecturing Magneto or the unwife in Tabula Rasa " a big moment.
And AvX has me worried for her as well. I have respect he writers vision I guess but I don't agree his point of view as far as Storm usage.
True. And what the hell is up with - "Hitting them with the full, precise rage of mother nature is just the sensible thing to do." I just don't agree that the precise rage of nature is lightning EVERY time she goes into combat. This statement just has me worried that this will be her answer to every combat situation (minus blotting out the sun with clouds once) even when other powers uses are the obvious better answer. I mean he has written magneot to have a pretty creative use with his powers with the Celestial. It's like he 's stating it's easier to write her using lightning to fit her into a team dynamic vs having her use all of her powers (even though she is pretty damn precise with all of them) because it would take away from the other members of the team??? I guess this answer is better than nothing...![]()
It's obvious that he's established Magneto as the most powerful member of the team, which explains why he puts so much effort into having him pull off all of these tremendous feats. I'm fine with them putting him in that area of the team, but what about Storm? You can't just have her shooting lightning every time she enters a fight and preaching "stop the fighting". It gets old and stale. Storm is a versatile character, just like Magneto. He needs to shake it up a bit.
Exactly! I hate to seem like I am not greatful that Storm is getting a little more panel time, but his answer, while honest, is quite disappointing. It makes me feel that he is too lazy to use his imagination, and he obviously has one with the way he has written Magneto. He states to look forward to issue #13 and an upcoming Sinister Arc but....TBH I am skeptical and sort of dreading it. He's better than Fraction but only by a small margin IMO.
lol, no.
Anyway, i agree that Gillen's use of Storm's character could be a little more inspired. He's got a big cast and some are obviously going to get more active roles than others, i'm guessing that he'll start building a more active role for her post AVX now that he's had time to digest response to his first 12 issues. I'm willing to give him a bit more time. And at the end of the day, even by being part of Scott's Extinction team has made more relevant than she's been in years..so hopefully an active role in the stories will follow soon.
As for his lack of creativity with her powers, i don't really give a shit about that and i'll never understand why some people do. It's a footnote.
In response to Lightning Lass' (over)use of lightning...
"...a proportionate and measured response..."
but wot Gillen neglected to point out...a response that has failed more often than not to produce meaningful results against the foe(s) in question.
It may be "Hitting them with the full, precise rage of mother nature is just the sensible thing to do."....but it is also the most ineffectual thing she can do...apparently.
Sorry Mr. Gillen...you've got to give me something better than that.
