the new Swamp Thing series sucks IMO - i read the 1st 6 issues. it feels very much editorially driven. and some of the characters are pretty bad. i stopped getting it as there are much better series to bother with. same opinion goes for the current Animal Man as well.

I don't agree with anything you just said, but will defend to the death your right to say it (y'know, figuratively).

Default Needed to start a new post....

BATMAN AND ROBIN: DARK KNIGHT, WHITE KNIGHT (This is obviously various creators killing time after Morrison left the title and before the DC relaunch, but it's about 1000% stronger than it has any right to be. Paul Cornell and Scott McDaniel turn in the best story (about a villain named "Abscence for nicely Dick-Tracy-ish reasons) but even the normally Godawful Judd Winnick does some nice work. Call it really low expectations, but B+.)

FARM 54 (Literary-type graphic novel taking place in Isreal. Effective and sad, especially the sparse art, but decompressed all to hell. In the interviews in back, the artist talks about how it took him four pages to draw 2 sentences worth of text. This means you're doing something wrong, dude. B-.)

FEAR ITSELF (Lissen - As far as superhero comics overall this wasn't so much, but compared to those other stupid-ass universe spanning crossovers this was a frackin' classic five star classic for the ages - If only because Stuart Immonen can really motherfin' draw, and it's basically a Thor story with everyone else shoehorned in, which keeps it from being too convoluted. B - for superhero comics, A +++++++ for giant company crossovers.)

FUTURE FOUNDATION Volume 2. (This is more 1/11th or whatever of Jonathan Hickman's massive Fantastic Four run than a thing-unto-itself. Overall the comic has been very, very good but it's more about long-term plotting than anything. And there wasn't any pay-offs here. C, as a thing-unto-itself. Probably an eventual A- as a piece of a larger whole.)

MORNING GLORIES VOL. 2 (Don't like the blatantly computerish art and there are a lot of talking heads, but it's a 'triguing (and freaky!) enough puzzle mystery that I keep buying the trades. Plus they're really cheap! B.)

Updated my list from page 1, total is 171 for the year so far.

Notable reads among classic comics since last time-read the collection of O'Neil Ra's al Ghul stories Tales of the Demon and rekindled my fondness for 70's Batman. Notable recent stuff-still grooving to Snyder's Batman and quite enjoyed Saga #1 (44 pages no ads for $2.99, hard ot beat in today's comic marketplace) and Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child #1.

I noticed you read Beowulf #1-6 in January...I assume these were the DC issues. How were they? I have been tracking down a lot of DC sword and sorcery stuff lately and saw a bunch of these at the lcs and am considering picking them up, but I am unfamiliar with them and was wondering if they were worth picking up and checking out?

I liked 'em. The writing's a tad schizophrenic (lots of anachronistic dialogue), its handling of history is nonsensical and "Beowulf" purists would roll their eyes at the liberties taken but the art is terrific and the series has a sense of humor amidst all the swordplay and mayhem. Be warned, though: it ends mid-quest so no satisfying ending.

Cool, thanks for the input. I will probably snag them the next time I go the the lcs if they are still there.

Updated my list. I was planning on reading Ed Brubaker's Catwoman run this month, but I've postponed it a bit. I recently added Amazing Spider-Man to my pull list, so I tracked down all the back issues since Dan Slott's run started and I'm working my way thru those.

Well, since Rob Allen will be arriving in a few hours and a weekend of conventioneering lies ahead, it's safe to say I'm done reading comics for the month of March. My tally has been updated accordingly. I read a lot of comics this month!

Averaging 1.87 comics per day, or 684 comics for the year. Like I said, I doubt I'll be breaking 1,000.

Still, I've read some GREAT stuff this year, and I'm glad I'm chronicling all of it.

My updated list can be found here.
