har har True, BC did have quite a few stinkers.

Seriously though, is the sequel a "must read" or just pretty good? The only Bedard stuff I've ever read was his post-Unity Valiant stuff (not bad), but can he handle Batman as well as Mike W. Barr?
I'd say the sequel was "pretty good" but not "must read". The kind of story that's worth checking out if you can come by it inexpensively. I seem to recall when the arc came out it was spoken of well on the Batman forum. Personally, I'd say it's the best story of Tony's I've ever read (others being his runs on BoP and GLC).

Thanks for the info! Probably not something I'll be looking to track down anytime soon, but I'll note it for the back burner.

I finished Devine Misfortune (including the preview of the authors next book). I'm now starting Nebula Awards Showcase 2007: a collection of that years best Sci-Fi short stories according to the Nebula Awards people.

At this point I'm basically just reading MDCU, so I'm at 161 for 2012.

But through various channels I did read 8132 comics in 2011.....

To get more specific with my floppies: today I'll read Superboy 6, Legion Lost 6, GL 6, Demon Knights 6, Frankenstein 6, Resurrection Man 6, Batwoman 6, Silver Star 3, Batgirl 6, Bionic Man 6, Doctor Who Classics IV 1, Batman B&B 16 and Comic Shop News 1286. I also finished Chaykins American Century and am about to start Ennis' Pride and Joy. Also, the Nebula Awards collection, it turns out, is comprised of both short stories and essays.

I volunteer at an elementary school (I guess you guys would call that a primary school) once a week, working one on one with kids (8 or 9 years old) in helping them to read. As a consequence I go through a lot of books. Mind you these are very short books, but that takes a lot of my focus these days--when I'm not reading materials for my own writing projects or for teaching adults. I rarely get around to reading any comics.

The other week I did manage to sneak in Batman: The Story of the Dark Knight, by Ralph Cosentino, from my private library. The boys enjoyed that, but I was kind of nervous since this was not an approved book. Frankly, I find what is available in the school library to be rather dull. I'm competing with the lure of other media and if it was up to me I would be using comic books.

If anyone has any suggestions on books for this age level I would be very happy to hear them.

UPDATE, Feb 15/12: Today I took out from the public library Little Lit: Strange Stories for Strange Kids and Little Lit: Folklore & Fairy Tale Funnies--both are RAW junior books. The back of the book says "All Ages"--but I'm not sure that all the stories are suitable for my school kids. Still, for one boy in particular, I'm trying to get him interested in books, rather than computers--so I'm hoping this stuff will excite him.

I also stopped by the bookstore and bought for myself a copy of Dante's Inferno. It's a book I've always meant to read, but last Sunday it was being discussed on the radio, on "Writers and Company"--so I thought I would give it a try. It's in both Italian and English translation--so it'll give me a chance to practice some Italian. But I'm not making any guarantees--since there are thousands of books in my library that I've begun and never finished.

Also, last weekend I got several vintage comics in the mail. I read one (Superboy 144). The most interesting in this lot are two Stumbo Tiny Town giants from Harvey. I have the memory of such a giant that my mother bought me after I had been to the dentist. Stumbo was a favourite Harvey character when I was little.

Just a public service announcement for the sake of this thread:

If you want to update your list, just edit your original post. No need to keep making new posts every time you read another book.
