Is anyone else loving the new colorist? FCO was awesome, but this guy knows his lighting.
Ryan just posted the cover to issue #97 on his Twitter account today. Looks like we get Zandale's origin.
I've dropped reading the book.
IMO its been on a slow decline for months, Kirkman obviously focusing his energies on TWD (both the comic and the show).
The most recent Invincible issue was one of the biggest POS I’ve ever read. The main character spends the issue w/a broken arm, on the couch, whining, watching the big battle on tv while awful secondary characters get the spotlight?!? WTF…
I was hoping to stick it out to #100 and transition from the floppies to digital after that issue, but I can't even make it until then.![]()
Comics still reading: Saga, Sixth Gun, Walking Dead, All New X-Men, Daredevil, Fury MAX. DC New 52 isn't the worth the paper its printed on...
Firstly, there were only 2 pages of Mark at home. That was to give an update on what was happening to him and to show how much of a struggle it is for him to feel so powerless to help when he's used to being one of the most powerful people on the planet. That's an interesting bit of character building.
And Kirkman's been focusing on "secondary" characters since issue 89. Bulletproof is the current "lead" character right now so it's not like this shift is unexpected. Sure, I'll be glad when we get back to Mark being the main character but the book has still been enjoyable and Kirkman is slowly building a little more interesting background for Zandale.
I think issues 84 - 89 were on par quality wise with almost any stretch in the series. The last couple of issues haven't been as strong (this Flaxan story line is interesting but I think will end up being stretched too long) but it's still more fun than almost any other book on the stands and has the best looking art to boot. This book has been almost 100 issues straight of greatness so I can't agree with you at all.

Wow, I couldn't disagree w/you more.
That also makes it even WORSE, that the main character was only in 2 pages OF HIS OWN BOOK.
The secondary characters have never been the strong suit of Invincible, its always been Mark's interaction w/them that was.
This current storyline of the substitute Invincible has been dragged out waaaay to long as it is. The character isn't interesting whatsoever nor are his adventures.
It reminds me of the whole Ben Reilly/Subsitute Spidey nonsense of the 90's. I'm not reading the new Ultimate Spiderman comic to compare that guy to this...

But he's not the main character right now. Zandale is. That's why he and his GtG team get more time in the book.
Disagree with you on this. The supporting cast in Invincible has always had a prominent role since issue 2 and is one of the great strengths of the series. Robot, Rex, Monster Girl, Immortal, Cecil, Donald, Allen (although I might upgrade him to main character now), William, DA Sinclair, etc are all characters that would be considered secondary that bring an awful lot to the series. A rich and well developed cast is one of Kirkman's biggest strengths as a writer.
Zandale has been the "lead" for 5 issues so far. That's hardly being drawn out. Although I tend to agree that I'm not that interested in Zandale (especially compared to Mark) and if this change was going to be permanent it would seriously damage my enjoyment of the series. But I can deal with it for awhile. And Kirkman has spent the last few issues filling in Zandale's character, giving him relationship drama, family issues, a mysterious missing brother, etc which helps to make him a bit more interesting. I'm looking forward to his origin story as teased in the issue 97 solicits.
Bottom line - Even if I hated the recent issues and Zandale (which of course I don't) it still wouldn't make me drop the book. A series that has been mind blowingly great for 90 issues, has a writer I greatly enjoy, and knockout art gets quite a bit of leeway and slack from me and a few issues that I didn't like wouldn't be enough to drop it. But that's just hypothetical because the book has still been a great read lately.

Then Kirkman should just throw Zandale into a spin-off GtG book and leave Invincible be. Oh wait thats right, GtG could barely even survive as a mini-series. And know he's sticking him in the forefront of this great book. Genius...
The book has had its ups and downs for awhile now. I was going to drop it back before the Viltrumite War sucked me back in. Then it went to crap again, w/this current nonsense...
I guess we'll have to "agree to disagree"
I'll probably come back to read #100, to see if there is a change in the status quo.

Well to be successful on a creator owned books it's a different scale than a Big 2 book. For example, Invincible sells around 15,000 copies a month. That would put it well below Marvel or DC's cancel line. But Ryan Ottley has said that he makes more money as co-owner of that book than he would working for the Big 2 and it's considered extremely successful for an indie comic. It's different when that money goes mostly in your own pocket.
And the GtG started with strong sales. They dropped off pretty good at the end but I think that was more a product of extended delays than lack of interest. They obviously feel the interest is there for an ongoing. It will be written by Phil Hester with art by Todd Nauck. The trade of the GtG mini comes out in August and the ongoing starts in September. The Image FCBD offering had a preview in it.
