That was early when she looked like a little girl. In a recent issue since she came back all grown up from the Flaxan dimension he started hitting on her. Despite knowing about there being something between her and Robot. The same Robot who was Bulletproof's teammate/friend. Seems to be a recurring theme with him.

Strangely enough some guys (that are commonly considered attractive) have trouble dealing with women in a non sexual way they seek out friendshipsbutend up "going there" cause thats what they are used to. His post stupidity reaction kinda points towards that...
I ain't called "harsh reality guy" cause I got the t-shirt. sarcasm is a way of life, it helps me not hurt people.

Is Invincible any different from other Superhero stories as the story progresses? I am not a big super hero fan, but I read the fist one and it looked pretty good.

Kirkman is a big superhero comic fan and says that this book is everything he wants to see in a superhero book. So you will get the familiar themes and tropes you usually see. But Kirkman gives them a fresh spin and makes it all seem original. And not having editorial influence helps make it feel different as Kirkman can do whatever he wants with his characters. This book is my all time favorite and I've consistently found is surprising and original despite being grounded in familiar superhero territory.

    This right here...

I have been reading comics for 24 years and Invincible is my favorite superhero book... And I LOVE my Marvel superheroes. Invincible tops em all... AND ITS VIOLENT! Not needlessly, but it can be pretty brutal.

Marc, when you said you read the first one... did you mean issue 1?

Yep. Issue #1 was free on comixology. Really liked it.

So it is more violent than most superhero books? I don't want to sound aggressive, but that is a big plus. I hate unnecessarily violent media, but properly paced violence can add a lot to a story.

There is violence but it is not gratuitous IMO, the most violent it gets is battles with characters like Conquest.

Alright. I'm definitely going to purchase it ASAP. Guess I need to start scrounging for coins to pay for another trade.

Really excited to jump into the universe. My shop has the intro into the universe/reference issues of Invincible. Worth buying them to get the best understanding of the series?

I cut and pasted this from an answer I gave someone in the Image forums on getting caught up on the series. So there is now 90 issues out instead of 89 but everything else still applies:

There are currently 89 issues out plus an issue 0 and Invincible Returns 1 (both of which are included in the various collected editions. There are several ways to get these:

    - There are 3 huge Library editions. They each contain 2 Ultimate Collections worth of issues. These are extra oversized with a bunch of extras in the back. The 3 volumes will bring you through Invincible Returns 1, which is just before issue 71. They are pricey though, about $75 - $80 each on amazon. About $3.34 an issue.
    - There are 7 Ultimate Collections hardcovers. They each contain 2 trades worth of issues. These are oversized and I believe the best value for the money. They also have a bunch of extras in the back. The 7 volumes would get you through issue 78. These are about $25 each on amazon. About $2.19 an issue.
    - There is a Compendium edition. It contains the first 8 trades and goes through issue 48. It is not oversized and has no extras. It is a very good value and cheap way to get a chunk of issues. This is about #35 - $40 on amazon. About $.75 an issue.
    - There are 15 trades. These have a few extras in the back. These trades go through issue 84. They are about $10 - $14 each on amazon. About $2.10 an issue.

These series is so much more enjoyable if you start from the beginning. Not only is it a great read, but there are plot threads and character development that will mean much more to you if you have the history with the book. But if catching up on all those issues is too much I would recommend the following (much cheaper) way to do it:

    - Track down a copy of issue #0. It was a jumping on point / recap issue that was released when the series was in the mid-#20's and gives an early history of the series.
    - Pick up a copy of Invincible Returns #1 (this should be much easier to find). This is another jumping on point / recap issue released just after issue #70 an gives some of the more recent history of the series.
    - This leads directly into the Viltrumite War which is one of the bigger events in the series and leads into current events. So I wouldn't skip it. I'd pick up trades 14 and 15 which get you up to issue 84.
    - Then the singles for 84 through 89 (coming out next week).

You'd miss some good stuff this way (particularly the Conquest arc that happens just before the Invincible Returns issue) and the events won't have as much impact because you won't have built the attachment and history to the characters but it wouldn't be a bad way to get caught up for fairly cheap.

Or just read the Wikipedia info and jump on with issue 89.
And, yes, getting the Invincible Universe handbook would also give you some good background and info on the characters. Although it's pretty out of date at this point. I think it only included info through around the mid-40's issues.

It becomes very violent. But it's not gratutious but evolves because the story evolves. Kirkman has said that he wants to portray realistic super powered fights. And when Supermen punch something there are consequences. When they fight each other there will be a lot of collateral damage. So the book doesn't shy away from that.

I was originally going to say exactly that, but didn't want to sound arrogant. that is probably my one of the my biggest problems with superheroes. Superman can punch through a wall, but when he punches someone in the face, they are knocked unconscious or when Batmen hit someone with a Batarang, which would seriously maim someone, there is just a 'thud". (Don't quote me on the Batman/Superman thing, it may be more violent than I think.)

I will probably pick up the Compendium edition and trades after that. I will probably start buying the singles as they come out just to have them later on, but I won't read them.

Do they plan to release a second Compendium edition with like 48-??

Thanks for the help guys. Really pumped to get into more comics. I have a lot of questions and comics I want to buy, but no money. It is much more difficult to get a job in high school then anyone knows. I've been working for 5 years mowing lawns around the neighborhood, but no one wants to hire me for a "real" job. This is a great board, you guys are a huge assistance to me. I feel very welcomed.

There will likely be a 2nd compendium with issues 48 - 96. But since issue 96 won't be out for about 6 months you are probably looking at Christmas 2013 at the earliest before it's released.

And always happy to get new people hooked on the Invincible crack.

Not exactly Invincible related, but it is in a way.

Can I take trades (Mint condition. Read once. Perfection.) back to my LCS and they will buy them back cheap? The Walking Dead got really stale for me after like volume 5 (I now have other interests too) and I kind of want to get rid of them. I'd take $5 a trade at this point. Is it most likely a store-by-store thing?

I'd use the money to hopefully buy part of the Invincible Compendium.
