    Default The Manga "Holyland"

I strongly recomment the Manga "Holyland" !!

It is the best Manga I have ever read.

Its about youth and gangfights in the streets of Tokyo. If you are in martial arts you will be impressed how intelligent this Manga is. It explains very deep aspects of martial arts by street fight situations. Its unbeliebeable intelligent.

And it also touches by friendship, drama, love and impotant questions how to find your way in life and what kind of responsebilties and also obstacels you will face if you try to find it.

Get it! Its highly impressive. The first 3 or 4 issues are a bit dull because the story is setting up step by step. But when it pick up speed this manga is breathtaking!!

Been reading it for a while.
I'd describe it as "History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, with the martial arts toned down to a more realistic level, and all the idealism sucked out".

Default Because you can't have an official Holyland thread without posting this:

    Default Great series

I've been recommending this manga to people to non-manga fans for a long time. I like the breakdowns on the effectiveness of various martial arts in real world scenarios, and how unique Kamishiro's character is compared to most shounen manga protagonists. I love this manga for the opposite reasons that I love HSDK, like the heavier focus on the psychology of the Kamishiro's character, the more brutally depicted fight scenes, to the overall realistic approach that the story takes. Last but not least, the art is really good and improves as the manga progresses.

Holyland is the manga that helped me transition from Shounen to, IMO, more awesome Senien manga like, All-rounder Meguru, Until Death Do Us Part, Young Gun Carnival, Berserk, and XS Hybrid.

this is one of those titles where I really wish it would get an English translation put into production-- cuz I'd by every single volume.

Well, the manga is now over.
I thought it was a satisfying run. spoilers:
With a helping of OH COME ON at the end, but I'll live.
    end of spoilers

    Yeah.
Doesn't seem to have had too serious consequences, but still, I almost shouted "OH COME ON!" at the page when that happened.
But I guess it does fit the general spirit of the story.

It's a good thing I checked the boards today or I wouldn't have seen this thread, I'm already at the 4th vol. and my mind is literally blown. If they ever make an anime adaptation of this hopefully, it will be a faithful adaptation of the whole story just like the anime adaptation of Monster.

seems like this would be easier to film as a live-action movie or tv-series.

the ending was a bit anti-climactic-- but overall I really enjoyed this manga.

Wow, haven't take a look at this thread for quite a while - so there are also a few other Holyland fans here. Good to know. Also good to know that this impressive comics got some attention. This is so highly recommended. Youth, friendship, the deeper and highly intelligent look at several martial arts - this is a great piece of art on so many levels. Have to reread it soon.
