Eh, taking him in the opposite direction is fine. Just say he's a clone and have him call himself Xel Rohtol already Marvel.

When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.-C.S.Lewis
He said that but not in that way.
This doesn't sound like he is going back anytime soon and it sound more like if he does face Spider-man its going to be the Head of Hammer Osborn. It's likely you'll see Osborn battling Spidey and impacting on his world again sooner or later, but not necessarily as the Green Goblin. He's undergoing a metamorphosis into something new right now in the pages of "Avengers" and "New Avengers.

You gonna get us out of here. With that tight-ass Wolverine outfit on. Now, let's make it happen, asshole
YOST: Okay, it's not Jean Grey. Nobody likes her
Osborn is Osborn. Whether it's as GG or in a business suit, it's the same character.
The thread asked when/is Osborn will be back, there it is. :)
Well Avengers have reputations for stealing characters from other franchises
Hopefully very, very soon. I liked Norman being independent of his Green Goblin identity, it has gotten old. There hasn't been a good goblin in a long while, so I really want him to reassume his identity.
I think since H.A.M.M.E.R has been dissovled in to hydra, and benndis is finshing his run this year it should be pritty soon

I hope Norman never returns to Spidey's rogues gallery. That character has been overexposed and his enmity towards him has gone from stupid to absurd. Spidey needs a new archnemesis.
If some of you want a Green Goblin to return, Bart Hamilton could possibly still be alive. We never saw him perished on-panel. If he is alive, he's probably still obsessed with being the goblin.
You won't see norman in purple tights for a loooooong time.
As a fan of the character, I'm totally cool with him taking a siesta for a bit. Doc Ock and the Kraven family really stepped up to the plate as arch-enemies in his absence. (Heck, just about all of Spidey's major enemies have graduated to Avengers-level threats in the past couple years. Carnage, Ock, the Jackal, the Six...)
Honestly it is time move on Osborn and Venom have run their course as Spiderman villains
It's definitely time to find a way to reinstate Norman as a threat in Spider-man's world. Slott's already doing a story with Doc Ock that will probably end up sidelining Ock for awhile afterwards. Venom's a good guy. Kingsley's dead, and Philgoblin sucks. Spider-man is sorely lacking in the archenemy department right now.
