It's great to have Simonson back even for just a bit, on art.

Walt was the artist on X-Factor not X-Force...

Nice to see Simonson on Legion, but what really intrigued me in this interview was the Judas Coin project. I love a lot of the more obscure DC characters including some of those mentioned. I hope DC solicits this soon.

This issue was the best issue of Legion in a while. It looked fantastic.

I wonder when DC was going to make use of those obscure characters.... that 70's era has pretty much been forgotten in comics history when the ephasis has been on the mid 80's almost to an unbearable extent [understandably]

You don't realize how bad some of the artists are today until you see a Simonson drawn comic.

    Well done, Walt.

Never liked Simonson's sloppy art. Here are a few examples of how bad it can be (see the wings on Thor's helmet...why is one way longer than the other?)...

...(see Thor's leg, below...is his knee dislocated? And is his arm double jointed?

How can the finger on the monster's hand be over the flying horse's wing when the hand is in the foreground?

Like John Romita Jr. art (below), Simonson art is overrated sloppiness (where's Colossus' neck? And where's his midsection?):

Simonson did great layouts, but his art style tended to be sloppy, on Thor.

I forgot this one. Possibly the worst of all. Is Thor's right forearm coming out of his shoulder?

No doubt about it. Simonson art is overrated. Great layouts, but overrated.

And did you notice that Thor's head is always off to the right, rather than centered on his torso?

Don't mean to nitpick, but these things have always bugged me.

Man, way to try too hard.

But anyway, Simonson was actually the reason I decided to stick with this Legion.

I actually dropped the title two issues ago...but I will buy this one just for Simonson's art...it's a one-shot anyway...so win-win for me.

Walt's my favorite artist. Those quirks in his figures are the result of his style, which at times is downright impressionistic and suggests form rather than slavishly recreates it in detail. (Look at his faces, for example.) When you're a stylist to that degree, you don't have to nail accurate physiology so much as create the sense of form. That's the difference between a Walt Simonson and a Mike Mignola compared to, say, a George Perez. Tastes may vary, though.

Beyond that, I don't think there's anyone currently working in the medium who conveys motion and movement as effectively as Walt.

A good comparison would be Sergio Aragones, i think.

As much as I liked his run on Thor and in other things, the previewed art is just.. terribly off-model. Cosmic Boy looks like he's about 40.
