i finished batman and the monster men last night and loved it. matt wagner's art on batman just works. so many iconic looking images of batman. really enjoyed getting an early story of hugo strange. i remember reading it in another thread, but can't find it now, but i think someone said a good reading order for other books would next be prey then followed by batman and the mad monk?

    Gotham Central 1 - 2
    Four of a Kind

(was going to get the new Knightfall vol 1, and Prey, but decided to wait.)

Also not related completely, but I was able to find those retro books (pre nu52), in dollar rack. I got Batman 80's and 90's

What did you pay for Four of a Kind? Are you saying it was from a dollar rack? Or other books were in that dollar rack?

    Ha, that's amazing!!

I loved the way he drew the Joker, hopefully he does more work like Death by Design.

No. Just the retro active issues were a dollar. Four of a Kind was $14.99.

Prey is one of my favorite Batman stories and was at one time rumored to be the basis for Dark Knight Rises, but that rumor seems very unlikely.

I had the original TPB of Prey and the reason I pre-ordered this version was because my old version was very old and I figured this new edition would be a quality upgrade.

Unfortunately the opposite ended up being the case despite the fact that DC also packaged in the 5-part series Terror which I already owned also.

I hate to start to a paper rant, but here it is as respectfully as possible.

The original Prey TPB had semi-gloss matte paper, this new edition uses the newsprint paper and for those who read my comments about the Knightfall New Edition vol. 1 know that I absolutely hate the old newsprint paper. I am not going to repeat that rant here, but I am now VERY concerned that DC is going to start using this paper on a regular basis. But I should have done my research before I made the purchase and I now know better than to just blindly purchase reprints from the 80s-90s thinking that they will be an upgrade over the previous editions. This new edition has been packaged up and returned to Amazon, so its not a mistake I have to live with.

With all that in mind, should YOU buy this?
Well if you are ok with newsprint paper and have never read or experienced Prey, then BY ALL MEANS you will not be disappointed. Even if you aren't ok with newsprint paper, but still want the story I would still go ahead and recommend you check it out, because it is a great story. This story also shows how great a villain Hugo Strange can be when properly utilized.
Hmm, that's interesting. Didn't they just re-release "Venom" with glossy paper? You think they'd want their LOTDK collections to match.

Bought Dark Knight Strikes Again last week as my copy mysteriously vanished few months ago and I re-read DKSA probably more than any other Batman trade I own. Always something hilarious and forgotten on every page. "Are they superheroes, or arseholes?" ha ha ha

That's quite a confession for a book to buy AGAIN when you've actually already read it

    Yep :)

He was a lot of fun to talk to, only negative was the number of people quietly b*tching in the queue about how long it was taking, and that there "should be a separate queue for people who just want a quick signature". I took pleasure in asking for a sketch knowing they were silently fuming behind me, too close to Dave now to say anything out loud. My sister got a Batman sketch too so we took up plenty of their precious time :D
Currently enjoying: Batman, Batwoman, Dial H, Detective Comics, American Vampire, Saga, The Manhattan Projects, Locke and Key, Atomic Robo, East of West...

Bought the new edition of Venom. It was ok. Nothing mind blowing. I might buy the new editon of Prey if I come across it.
