I have been contemplating getting all of Morrison's Batman in DC's Deluxe format, but am hoping that DC will put these out in omnibus format someday. Having all these stories in one or two large books in their intended order would be magnificent.

I think it may happen because of DC's willingness to make the New 52 hardcover and their Geoff Johns Flash and Hawkman Omnibuses. Also, seeing Morrison's Invisibles omnibus coming soon makes me want to believe.

I know that many aren't pleased with these particular books because of their glued binding and major gutter loss, but DC absolutely has the ability to make great books, pun intended.

I also know that there's an Absolute Batman and Robin coming out, but I don't think that should dissuade DC from putting Batman and Robin in an over-sized hardcover format along with Morrison's other Batman works.

Does anyone think that this will actually ever happen?

I recently picked up RIP, Batman Reborn, Heart of Hush, Knight and Squire, and got given Batgirl: The Lesson as a christmas present from a friend, completing my Steph-set of trades.

I pretty much enjoyed all of them. RIP not so much, because I'm not a huge fan of Daniel's style, but thematically it was fun, Reborn was loads better as a great take on the traditional Batman and Robin relationship, and the villains were fun - and I even mostly enjoyed the Red Hood story - although the Prince-homage cover with Flamingo made me want to see more of Quitely drawing him, because that was way more interesting an image that the broad-shouldered monster Tan gave us. Heart of Hush was good, although it stumbles near the end, and Knight and Squire and Batgirl were the best of the bunch, although you can tell Miller had to condense everything down toward the end.

My brother recently got me back into reading comics and I read Batwoman: Elegy, Batman: Noel and the Black Mirror over the holidays and I really enjoyed all of them.

I would probably say that I liked Noel the most as it was a unique take on Batman and I really enjoyed the art work

Yeah same here. Heard about 'year one' over the years but never paid much attention to it, until 3 days ago when i brought it. Now im gonna buy 'The Dark Knight Returns'.

I bought Black Mirror when it first came out and just read it this week. The writing and art are great but a bit too dark for me. I was shocked when I went to Amazon the other day and saw that it is sold out.

It's weird. I don't think DC anticipated the demand for the books at all, but couple the New52 and Christmas together, and both Black Mirror and the more low-key Arkham City HC have been out of stock for weeks. I can't even find a copy of Arkham City in my local bookstores and comic shops.

Black Mirror should have been in the deluxe format, it has so proved it was worth it the extra jump, so il hold out.

I know its a while away but recently i have been contemplating the Absolute Batman and Robin (most likely to be 'officially' announced in solicit's today), usually i only buy Absolutes with one writer/artist team, and even if not i would expected amazing art from all those involved (im looking at you Tan), but then B&R was probably one of THE comics that got me back as a DC fan and the peak of Morrison's Batman work.

What exactly is so bad about Tan's work? People seem to complain consistently about it and I'm just curious as to why. I mean, if it were the fact that it doesn't really fit with the aesthetic that pretty much book-ends Tan's story - art by Quitely and then Stewart, I could understand that.

I finally got Dark Knight Returns, Year One and Long Halloween

I've been meaning to get these for aaaaages and I loved them!

Long Halloween was my favourite, I couldn't put it down the whole time and had to read it from start to finish in one go!
Avengers Arena is one of the best books in the shops right now, it's seriously amazing.

Key word..consistency, whilst the first Tan issue was good, the following two were not always the best (Damian/Jason Todd facial features in particular). I personally don't mind Tan's art overall, in fact i think he was a good fit in art style for the 'Revenge of the Red Hood' arc, i was merely saying it wouldn't be rewarding/worthy of being oversized.

Oh, no, don't get me wrong - I wasn't singling you out, it's just that Tan's art seems to get critiqued quite a bit in general.

To be fair as you said its probably made worse by the fact that he took over from Quitely and was followed by Stewart, who are fan-fave's and to their credit did an amazing job.

Batman Noel Deluxe: I got it for purely for Bermejo's art but was pleasantly surprised to find the writing to be pretty solid. Short but fun read.

A Death in the Family TPB new edition: I didn't find the story to be particularly great but it's still a necessary piece to the ole bat collection. Was very happy to find that A Lonely Place of Dying is also included in the new edition!

No Man's Land vol. 1 new edition: About halfway through and really digging it so far. Just flipping through the latter half of the book though it looks like some of the art is gonna be kind of hit and miss(which I suppose is reasonable for such a huge crossover).

Looking forward to Gates of Gotham coming out at the end of the month!

I've read a lot of Batman the last few months, since I'm still quite new to comics and am having a great time exploring more of the Batverse. I think the last four trades/hardcovers I bought have been:

The Black Mirror - Loved it in single issues so I really needed to have this hardcover edition. What a book! So glad Snyder took over on Batman proper.

Batman: Noel - The previews that were up online and in some monthly comics looked very promising. The art looked lovely and that's what made me buy this book. I had a great time reading it and it just a great book to read every year during the holiday season.

Legends of the Dark Knight: Marshall Rogers - Still need to read it, but flipping through the book I have to say it looks very promising. I bought the Tales of the Batman: Gene Colan books a couple of months ago and loved those classic stories. Hopefully this book will have the same reading experience.

No Man's Land vol. 1 (new edition) - Haven't read this either yet. I think I'll wait till I have all 3/4/5? of the trades and then read one a week or so. Haven't decided yet.
