Default If you're to recommend 10 titles of the new relaunch to a newbie, what would they be?

The DC relaunch has each new title to about four or five issues now, what 20 titles has been good in your opinion, that you would recommend to a new reader who would like to regularly buy and enjoy the stories presented in those 10 titles?

Just give a brief opinion if you can on why those particular titles were recommended. Thanks.
Excuse me. Have you ever danced with The Devil by the pale moonlight?

I would recommend getting DC's big six characters in the following:
Action Comics (shows how Superman started out)
Batman (gets better reviews than Detective)
    Wonder Woman
    Flash
    Green Lantern
    Aquaman
    Justice League

Get the trade paperbacks for the first story arc for each of them to see how they get started.

After that, it depends greatly on your tastes. I would recommend Teen Titans, Batwoman and Supergirl. Maybe Superman, Batman and Robin, or Superboy. I'm a big Legion of Super-Heroes and Birds of Prey fan, myself, but they might be a bit confusing to new readers.

If you lean towards the Dark side, Animal Man gets good reviews. I'm picking up Justice Leage Dark and Demon Knights, but I don't think those two are all that new reader friendly. If you like Edge, well, can't help you there, since I don't care for Edge myself.

Justice League: Because it has all the A-listers in it. A good introduction to all these characters and how they met.

Batman: The book is brilliant. Both writing by Snyder and art by Capullo. Current arc is 11 issues and as of issue #8 will have 30 story pages for only 3.99.

Wonder Woman: It's a new origin story that is very accessible. The story is quite dark and the art is gorgeous.

Animal Man and Swamp Thing: Both books are critical darlings and for a reason. The stories are well thought out and later this year the books will crossover. Two top writers on on these books. Snyder (yes, again) and Jeff Lemire. They are horror stories and man are they exciting!

Action Comics: Grant Morrison is writing this.

Aquaman: Because he is cool now And it's written by Geoff Johns. Ivan Reis' art is delicious to look at!

Batwoman: Has the best art on any DC book now imo. The story till now is quite self-contained and the character is unlike any other right now.

Teen Titans: Just because it's a fun book. All characters meet for the first time so easy to jump into.

The Flash: Another book with truly gorgeous art (from Manapul).

Runners-up: Green Lantern, Nightwing and Batman & Robin. Actually I favor B&R over Action Comics and The Flash right now, but there might be too much Batman and related for some then.

Also The Shade is excellent. I highly recommend this one too. You might want to replace one of the above 10 with this one. It's that good!

And all that together is basically my DC (non-Vertigo) pull.

Well, that's a bit tricky.... What one person will love, another will hate. We really need to know a person's preferences to recommend something reliably.

That being said... I think the following are easily accessible, cover the big characters of DC, and are of high quality:

    Action Comics
    Batman
    Animal Man
    Swamp Thing
    Aquaman
    Wonder Woman
    Frankenstein
    Supergirl
    The Flash

There are a few others that I could have suggested but are either nichey, like I, Vampire or All-Star Western, or are undergoing creative team changes soon, and I have no idea what the new writer will be like, so can't in good faith recommend them until I know.

That's a tough call because I have some friends who don't really care for female leads and I have some friends who don't like straight action titles like Deathstroke and then some friends who think Grant Morrison is too confusing, so everyone views things differently, but to a newbie:

    Justice League (a must)
    Action Comics
    Green Lantern
    The Flash
    Batman
    Deathstroke
    Aquaman
    All-Star Western
    Animal Man
Swamp Thing (must get both Animal and Swamp)

If you don't like Superman or Green Lantern or Aquaman as characters, I'd swap out for Wonder Woman or Batwoman or Frankenstein
Casanova, Iron Man, Justice League, Action, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Firestorm, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Stormwatch, I,Vampire, Voodoo, Saucer Country, Mrning Glories, Rachel Rising, Stumptown

Aquaman - A very witty, gorgeously drawn book, it shows Arthur at his best (so far), with his storng sense of justice and his close relationship to his wife, also has lots of water action and i love the water lol.

Action comics - A great read, shows how Superman started as a young adult, discovering how to utilise his powers and how he just starts up his career, extremely well written.

Green lantern - Im a huge fan of GL so this was a must, the continuity hasnt really changed for this book at all, it resumes right where it left off before Flashpoint and so far has been just as good as usual.

The flash - So far a well written story and GORGEOUS artwork are making this a must read for me, hasnt got too much into Barry's past yet but there's still time for that.

Justice league - This is a great book, really nice artwork also, its basically the origins story (so far) of how the different heroes meet for the first time and how they team up.

Wonder woman - A surprising read for me, story is great and really shows the best of WW, artwork is a little....unique, but still interesting.

Out of all those i read from DC, these six would be my recommendations for a newbie, but im also reading other good books like:

Batman, Detective comics, Superman, GL:Corps, GL:New guardians and Teen titans.

Justice League of America - Easy to digest. Great art. High profile book.

Justice League International - Traditional superhero (team) comic with some humor. Very light to get into. No worries.

    That's all I got.
New Avengers, Morbius The Living Vampire, Scarlet Spider, Iron Man, Fearless Defenders, Fantastic Four, Deadpool Killogy, Savage Wolverine, Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men & X-Force, Cable & X-Force, Gambit

    1. Action - Superman is iconic, and this is the best Superman title in addition to being a good introduction to the character.

    2. Batman - Batman is iconic, and while this isn't an origin story, Batman's character is iconic enough that probably doesn't matter and the book is quality and creepy. Hopefully it'd be a good introduction to the wider Batverse and supporting characters.

    3. Wonder Woman - Again, the final member of the trinity but also it's just a kickass book right now - great art, great story, and a different, darker take on the superhero genre to contrast with Action.

    4. Swamp Thing - I hesitate slightly because there's a lot of exposition in this book at the start, and even though I got into it without much knowledge of Swamp Thing history, I did at least feel grounded in the DCU. So I would warn the reader that the first few issues are heavy on the explanations, but I think the richness of the world and the story once you get into it - in addition to the use of panels and the fantastic art, means I'd recommend it.

    5. Animal Man - I'd recommend this out of sheer quality and also as an example of genre diversity, breadth of artistic style and an example of the way shared universe comics can interact while still being independent (with Swamp Thing).

    6. Batwoman - For the art alone, this should be on the list, but it's also a good story and the supernatural and military edges to the character both differentiate her from Batman and present a slightly different take on a powerless masked vigilante.

    7. Stormwatch - It starts a little unevenly, but it grows into something truly strange and odd and fascinating. It's wacky and insane and chaotic, and a little less heroically idealistic than most cape stories and I think it captures the brilliant edge of "what the hell is going to happen next?!" that good comics can in a way fairly few other books right now are managing.

    8. Demon Knights - Strong characterisation, morally ambiguous protagonists, beautiful art, genre diversity in terms of historical fantasy, a plot that is wheeling out into something fascinating both within the series (with Shining Knight's Quest tying in to that of the Queen) and outside with another example of a lowkey crossover with Stormwatch that plays to the strengths of a shared universe rather than the weakness of demanding the reader keep up with a hundred series.

    9. Justice League - Not a favourite of mine, but it's big, bold, easy to understand, pretty to look at and is the anchor book of the DCU dealing with a lot of the high profile characters. So for a new reader it should probably be on the list.

    10. The Flash - I'm actually not reading this book anymore, but the art is undeniably gorgeous and since I'm now down to a handful of higher quality books that could all vie for this spot, might as well put a book that really showcases the visual nature of the medium, since we're talking about a newbie. Plus it's a classic cape story.

Other books I would have liked to include, or might substitute into that tenth spot based on the personal taste of the reader would be Blackhawks for fun military action and transhumanist shenanigans, Static Shock for a younger teen hero, Batgirl if the person wanted more Batverse, All-Star Western if they like Western stuff, Justice League Dark would be on there already in the #10 spot if I didn't think it was a little new-reader unfriendly without even Swamp Thing's mountains of exposition, but if the person liked the more Vertigo twists to things, I'd suggest subbing this in, and finally Birds of Prey if they want it more skewed towards team books.

Perfect! I'm going to second this one.

Just 10? This won't be easy...

    In no particular order:

    Action Comics
    Animal Man
    Swamp Thing
    Batman and Robin
    Green Lantern
    Batman
    Wonder Woman
    Justice League

Those are 8 I would absolutely recommend getting. I tried limited the Batman stuff, otherwise it would be mostly that. The only one that I think has had people on this board really divided is Batman and Robin, but I personally love it, even if it's a take on Damian (the new Robin and Batman's biological son) that many don't agree with.

The last 2 is kinda iffy, so here's some stuff I've been enjoying:

    Batwing
    Batwoman
    Deathstroke
    Nightwing
    Red Hood and the Outlaws
    All-Star Western
    Batman - The Dark Knight
    Flash
    Aquaman

As you can see, I'm a pretty big Batfan. If I had to choose 2 from that list, it would be Red Hood and All-Star Western. I'd suggest you to browse the previews and see if there's anything that just grabs you immediately and try that.

I see lots of great replies already in this thread from superhero fans, so I will give you a slightly different perspective from someone who is less into superheroes these days.

    Ten to pick

Omac (I know it has been cancelled, but worth reading the 8 issues that have been/will be published)
    Suicide Squad
    Animal Man
    Birds of Prey
    Voodoo
    Swamp thing
    All Star Western
    Resurrection Man
    Frankenstein, Agent of Shade
    Action Comics

DC Universe presents and JL Dark are also very good. Shade is an excellent mini-series.
