With Ollie getting the short end of the arrow shaft constantly over the past decade (save for excellent Green Arrow: Year One), this both intrigues and worries me.
As long as this character in "Arrow" keeps some of the concepts of Ollie intact (the archer element, his cranky belligerence and the beard - yeah I want that back), I'll tune in.
I've avoided Green Lantern movie like the plague, so having a Fringe scribe on this brightens the concept just a bit.
Still, I remain super cautious about this. There are so many things which can be done with a character like Oliver Queen. He's definitely serial material and I think a lot of people would like the character if he's presented right.
Wait and see.
huh? This sounds like tv's version of the Halle Berry Catwoman movie.According to the website, "Arrow" sets the character "in a new world with an original story that is not based on the comics."
"I find myself in the service of lost boys struggling to be strong men." - Robin: Year One
Sounds like the "Green" aspect of the character and possibly the trad costume and other cartoony elements will be gone if they are already calling it Arrow. That's OK with me because I would love to see some classic high adventure on TV no matter what the premise especially since Highlander has left the screen. That would be the direction I would take the show with plenty of martial arts action to add to the archery.Taking it out of DCU proper at least initially avoids the teenagers in hoodies aspect that ruined the last years of Smallville. This alone will piss off the fanboys and should lead to some hilarious whines and moans from them while the larger audience embraces the show as good action adventure. Then again in any format this show along with Deadman, Raven, and,Wonder Woman has a snowballs chance in hell of even getting to the screen like dozens of other aborted WB/DC projects.
They are having the same guy who played him in Smallville right?
EDIT: So it appears no they won't..well that kinda sucks.
A woman can move a lot faster with her skirt up than a man can with his pants down.
It is WAY to early to say ay or nay on Hartley being involved. They are just starting to work on the script. But I suspect that they may want to divorce the Green Arrow concept from Smallville, and blaze their own trail here.
But they should keep in mind that Justin Hartley was such a good fit for Smallvilles Arrow that he went from being a guest start to a recurring character. So building it around him might be a good way to guarantee that the show gets viewers.

Why do I get a feeling this is that SuperMax movie idea recycled for TV?
(The one where Ollie is in prison, and not actually Green Arrow.)
I would like to see him play the part again, but I can see one reason why they wouldn't
They only reason why I think they wouldn't would be to set it in a demo that fits with their audience. They will make him a teen hero 17-18 or something like that and put him in a boarding school.

You gonna get us out of here. With that tight-ass Wolverine outfit on. Now, let's make it happen, asshole
YOST: Okay, it's not Jean Grey. Nobody likes her
Hopefully, they can get Justin Hartley or whatever his name is to play Arrow.
I'm going to pitch a Batman tv series to The CW.
But it won't be based on the comic book past of Batman, he won't be called Batman and he won't be Bruce Wayne.
The Hartley guy cant act to save his life are you people crazy, if this show is gonna make it, they need a more than average character to play the lead/Green Arrow. He was a miscast anyway.
Its the CW developing this?, well that sucks. it will just turn into a soap opera teen drama.
They tried doing that with a series about Dick Grayson, but it never took off.
I think this is a bad idea, particularly doing it without Justin Hartley. The guy, like it or not, brought a lot of audience appeal to Smallville. I think a spin-off with Justin is a bad idea, but one without him is a horrible one.
