Fantastic book with two very complex characters. One of my favorites on the stand.

As much as it may be a minimal thing, I think their choice in cover artist was REALLY off on this one. Like it or not, people judge books by the cover, specially comic books. When you have a title with "vampire" in it, then have a shirtless dude with goth fairy wings (wings? seriously?) on the first few covers, it really does paint the wrong picture, given how grim the book really is. No knock on the artist's skills at all, it just wasn't the best decision.

I mean... spot the difference.

only think you need to know is this
the main characters are Andrew and Mary
Andrew is a guy who turn into a vampire but he didnt go all evil, he had thsis girlfriend who is Mary, so he turn her into a vampire so that they could be together forever
but mary turn evil
Eventually Mary became queen of the Vampires, and pretty much like any Vampire evil lord she wants the vampires to take over earth so she is going to start a war
Andrew obviously being in the opposite side trying to stop the war

Andrew also goes with an old guy who pretty much is the human sidekick and a young girl who also wants to kill vampires cause his father is one

the story is very simple, but the writing is very strong, and the art is just fabulous, full use of shadows and barely any color other than black and red but it works very well

the only think that you might find confusing is the powers, Andrew is a very old vampire like mary so he is more powerful than others, so he has the power to turn into mist and... a werewolf
yeah its the only thing that bothers me Andrew can turn into this huge black beast that is superstrong but its obviously a werewolf

Pretty straight forward and sounds really cool, I'm looking forward to giving it a read.

Yeah, it's extremely short-sighted to look at I, Vampire as another Twilight clone. DC may have been riding the vampire craze in launching the comic, but it's a very different take on vampires. People should drop kick the Twilight connection and judge the book on its own merits.

Personally, I won't touch Twilight. I, Vampire is a big improvement over that nonsense. So I... well, I don't like I, Vampire either, but I assure you it's for very different reasons! (Starting with the art, which doesn't agree with me at all.)

Absolutely the only reason the CW greenlit the TV show was because of the Twilight craze.

But the truth is that the Vampire Diaries books predate Twilight by about ten years. The vampires on VD do not sparkle. They are not cuddly. They kill without mercy. And while there is the whole teen / vamp romance aspect its not all puppies and rainbows like Twilight as the two vamps in the Elena's life (the teen female) are frequently not nice and do very bad things. Just tonight Stefan (one of the main two vamps) kidnapped Elena against her will, forced his blood into her, and threatened to make her a vampire against her will all to be a "better villain" than the shows currrent big bad. I don't see Edward ever doing something like that to Bella.

Twilight really has poisoned the market against vampire stories.

Trade wait the titles that aren't in danger of getting cancelled like Justice League or Batman or Green Lantern. Titles like I, Vampire won't last long enough to be tradeable without real time support.

I dun think Twilight is that bad. They just romanticized vampires and at the end of the day, this kinda forbidden love stories are just really popular because people can relate to that.
I think True Blood and Vampire Diaries are much more realistic portrayals of Vampires, but Twilight is just this surreal epic love story, which can work on different demographics. I dun get the Twilight hate at all. I don't think it challenges me intellectually or anything, but its a good, fun love story.
