    Default walker (my zombie comic)

Hey All, Just finished issue 1 of my new zombie comic.

its set in the near future in a post apocalyptic america. Its a story of one man walking across a barren and destroyed America to get from the east coast to the west. Its set 18 months after a zombie outbreak and alough there are zombies, there aren't millions of hordes as most of the first exposed zombies have now rotted away or died out, only a few stragglers to contend with are left.

Walker is a man of few words The only way to describe him is a cross between the emotionless punisher and denzil washington from the book of eli. It does have a strong book of eli mad max theme and the character is one that you are forced to hate but realise everything he does is for the purpose of his own survival.

Don't you think that zombies in post apocalyptic America has been done to death?

    and?

Super mario has been done to death since it first came out and so far there are about 40+ sequels that are pretty much all the same thing, but people still get them.

There is an audience that love it and those are the ones im catering for.

Don't you feel like it's an overly saturated market? Every con I go to there is table after table of people self publishing their little zombie apocalypse comic.

Just what I really don't understand is if these people are going to put so much time and effort into creating a story, don't they want to do something different? I love zombies myself of course, who doesnt but I also acknowledge zombies have been done to death. If I were ever to do a zombie comic I would make damn sure to do something different.

Are you only doing this for money and you're trying to target a specific audience? What makes your zombie stories stand out from the thousands of other zombie comics out there? What makes yours different?

Because I see you have the artistic talent, you have the drive and passion and actually get things done, which already puts you ahead of 99% of the other non-pro comic creators out there, but why do you spend so much time and effort making something so derivative?

I am not meaning this as a negative personal attack by the way.

zombies is just a small part of what I do, I have a whole range of other comics i have made, from war, scifi and even psychopathic horror. Zombies is just my favorite genre, Im still building my website to show off all my comic work and when its completed i will reveal everything.

now you asked why this one is different from all the rest. Well for one it is a zombie comic, but the story isn't about the zombies, nor is it the same routine story of a bunch of survivors pointlessly living in the destroyed world doing what they always do. This is a story about a family man, who loses everything, his wife his kids and strolls through the wasteland, cut off from everyone else who is surviving with him. The only way to describe him is the punisher or the guy from 'book of eli' He isn't interested in helping other people or getting involved with a community to stay alive. He lives for himself, he makes choices the audience may not agree with, but does them for the greater good of his own survival. He decides to make the long walk from one side of the country to the other in order to finally get off the mainland and onto Hawaii, where there is no recorded signs of infection. On his journey, he has to avoid zombies, but as this is 2 years into the outbreak, there are no massive hordes, as most have all died out and only has a few stragglers to contend with, but its not the zombies he has to deal with, its the bandits, the rapists, the other survivors who have turned bad because there is no law to stop them. He is also constantly visited by the spirit of his dead son, who is actually just his own sub conscious manifested in the image of his boy, who tries to keep him on the right track. Try to help him make better decisions to help other people instead of ignore them. Its this constant badgering that is the only thing keeping his humanity alive, because without it, he is nothing more than a cold blooded shell, wandering in the shadow of his former self.

So yes it has a lot of already seen before material, but this one will stand out better because its not using the same old 'band of survivors heling each other and just sitting around in a barricaded warehouse all the time. Walker is constantly on foot, battling the cold, the zombies, lack of food and weapons, not to mention other survivors that just want to rob and kill him.

I am curious, how many of these things do you sell and who buys them? Not trying to sound patronizing if I do, just wondering because you're a pretty talented dude and put alot of work into these if it ever pays off or atleast gets read.

I don't sell them mainly because I am trying to build up a decent portfolio of comics to show off what I can do. My frontier comics get a thousand downloads a month and growing. If I get any paid work or even an actual job I would be very happy. Also de Sosa I'm glad you commented if you check the letters page at the back of this latest issue you may see a familiar post...

just a quick update, I had to reupload the comic due to some dialogue changes that I felt needed to be made. So if you downloaded the comic before the time this message has been posted then download the new updated version.

Sorry I did a final check last night when I was very tired and now decided it needed to be done

Very cool. I think there's a lot of zombie comics for the same reason there's a lot of superhero comics or fantasy comics, because that's what people like! I don't think it matters, as long as your are taking something and making it your own and making it original.
