I'm pretty happy with this collection. For the number of pages it has, and the price point it's at, I think this is a pretty good package. I apreciate that they added the Vengence of Bane one-shot, and although I wish they'd included a few of the lead up issues, after seeing the size of the book I can understand that it probably wasn't possible.

Seeing as I wasn't expecting a super-deluxe package, this will do just fine for the price I paid. I am very much looking forward to the next two collections to complete the storyline

There you go misrepresenting it again with your needless exaggerations.

I don't feel that I am misrepresenting it AT ALL. The paper that it comes on is pure crap and reeks of cheapness. The paper quality could have and dammit SHOULD have been a lot better. I make no apologies for feeling how I feel about it.
For those that already own the Broken Bat and Who Rules the Night collections this trade is about as worthless as it gets. Better paper quality would have made it a worthwhile. For those that are happy with it, good for ya'll. I just happen to have higher standards and DC doesn't deserve my money if that is the best they can do. No Mans Land got it right and is a MUCH better collection than the previous TPBs. Every previous DC re-release has upgraded paper, but yet not on this one. I am not demanding that it be the shiny glossy paper. Matte paper would have been fine also. The paper used in the Year One and Dark Knight Returns TPBs (not Deluxe Edition) would have been fantastic as well.

I went to my local Barnes and Noble and sat down with it for a little while TRYING to convince myself that it was acceptable. It wasn't. It sucked. In short, Im sorry but I do not think I am exaggerating at all.

Having said that, I will likely pick up the Knightsquest and KnightsEnd TPB since they have stuff never before collected in trade and who knows, maybe I will have warmed up to the paper quality (or lack thereof) by then.

    Really? Because you said

But it does use matte paper, not newsprint, and the quality is higher than a phonebook even though it may not be as high as what has been used in some other trades. It's roughly equivalent to the kind of paper used in a book. They probably had to use thinner paper than what was used in Year One so the binding wouldn't come apart after one or two read throughs.

But many of us have trades with this exact kind of paper that are old and have lasted through multiple reads just fine. The pages are thicker than the 23 year old copy of A Death in the Family I have that was printed on newsprint and that trade still looks almost brand new even though I've read through it more than 10 times.

We get it, you aren't happy with the trade. But please, the hyperbole is over the top. DC did not make this trade to personally insult you. The thing is 640 pages at a $30 cover price, I consider that a deal considering the price of the original trades.

With all due respect, you obviously have no clue what matte paper is.

The type of paper being used in this new Knightfall trade is not matte. Not at all. Matte paper, is for high quality print work. A lot of the Marvel omnibus covering silver age material use matte paper and they look FABULOUS.

    Its called Mando paper

Obviously, the above picture is taken from an old comic book, but it demonstrates the paper being used quite nicely.

Ill be happy to go to Barnes and Noble and prove its the same.

As for your comment about Batman Year One. I have read my copy probably 20 times and its still in tip top shape. In fact that quality of paper would have been PERFECT for this collection I think.

All this debate about the paper quality. Look, it's not the highest grade paper out there, and I might have preferred glossy, but it's no even remotely phone book quality. I think you vastly underestimate the paper quality. If you treat it well and keep it on the shelf and it won't turn brown and moldy overnight. Hell, it probably won't show very noticeable age for many years.

Besides, it's a massive volume collected previously uncollected issues at a very reasonable price. This really is a small price to pay. It's not like they did this to an Absolute Edition.

ANyway, this will be my last post regarding the paper quality.

Respectfully, I say that I feel that DC could have and should have used higher quality paper, because of that this release is a disappointment. Maybe its because I am used to collecting high quality Marvel Omnibus.

I will still probably pick up Knightsquest and Knightsend when they come out since they will have a bunch of never before printed material.

The reason I don't like that kind of paper is for the following reasons:

    A) It gives it a cheap look

    B) I dont like how it feels when I touch it.

    C) I hate the way it smells and that smell ends up on my hands

    D) My hands always feel dirty after touching it.

What uncollected issues? Every issue in Knightfall Vol. 1 has been collected before! Once we get to KnightsQuest and Knightfall, then there will be a lot of unreleased content.

The New edition No Mans Land TPB had similar page counts AND used the higher quality paper, but it had the same price. As did the release of Venom.

No Mans Land had over 500 pages and it DID have nice quality. Why is it unreasonable for me to expect the same for Knightfall?

I am highly skeptical of your readily available information... what?

well, perhaps 600 pages is the limit before paper had to be shifted down. I don't claim to know those ins and outs of printing, especially when it comes to DC and their printers.

I'm also just not that upset about it?
