I read some books. Ok, quite a few
Incredible Hulk 7.1-Aaron just took the other 6 or 7 issues and said, hey those don't count cause look at this ending. I had a feeling this was gonna be how things were gonna be though. The art was again, horrible, but it was nice to see The Orb again. Still, I'm just not connecting to what Aaron is doing here with the big green guy but the next arc looks promising
Fatale 5- The end of the first arc and I got to say I enjoyed this. I like the occult and supernatural aspects really being turned up here towards the end. More questions are raised than answered of course, but it's only the first part of a story. I'd chalk up another hit to Bru & Phillips. Missed the backmatter tho, I really like Jess Nevins articles.
Rulk 51- Rulk's fighting the supernatural to get rid of some ghosts and those vampires from one of those Fear Itself things or the X-Men thing fight him an then realize he's not doing any harm. Parker just gets stuck playing with the odd new characters no one else will touch huh? Well I liked it well enough so it's cool. And next issue is the Legion of Monsters!
Action Comics 9- I'm dropping this because while this issue was pretty good, this alt Superman doesn't tell any stories I want to see which is Grant Morrison making the regular Superman awesome or relevant again. This book goes off on too many tangents. Gene Ha's art was quite nice and again, i liked this issue but I want to get back to Clark and you never know when this book is gonna do some weird fill-in or alternate tale
Amazing Spider-Man 685- How wild is it that Spidey's main adventure has him teamed up with Black Widow & Silver Sable for most of it. Odd group, but I like it. this was pretty good. The Marvel U people are just flat out dumb with memories of goldfish though
The Defenders 6- I did not like the heel turn and deaths that were had here, but I really like this book, and he did create these characters so I guess it's ok. Fraction's just writing crazy stories with characters he just likes using and it shows through. Silver Surfer kicks ass.
Daredevil 12 & 13 were fun especially the twist at the end, but I did get Pham'd in 13. The twist at the end was nice and amusing.
Swamp Thing 9- This ends the first arc and it was gross and cool, but the problem is I feel no attachment to these characters, and as a first time Swampy reader, very little backstory is given on why they like each other or do what they do. This book is being put on notice
Animal Man 9- See, I'm a first time Animal Man reader too, and it's basically their quest to meet up with Swampy,so that makes that book hard to drop. Animal Man is a lot more fun and offers more moments than Swamp Thing and is not afraid to inject a little humor in there every once in a while. I really like Steve Pugh's work too
Frankenstein 9- Lemire's last issue and he uses it to tie into his Animal Man run. This book is a lot of fun too. Skeptical about the new writer, but hope he continues the same tone. The new colorist or inker the artist got does wonders too.
Journey Into Mystery 637- Almost completely unreadable. I do not like The New Mutants, and they were the focus here and this is of course the 2nd part of a crossover that I didn't read the first part so its all just like WTF is going on. Shame, this was one of my favorite books. Di Giandomenigo's art did not fit at all either.
Wolverine & The X-men 10- While I think Night of The Owls is the better crossover, certainly better put together and organized, this issue was fantastic. Aaron just nails these characters so well. The Convo between Scott/Logan was intense, Iceman continues to be taken seriously, and Bachalo is turning it up a notch. Makes me wonder wtf Aaron is doing in Hulk tho
