My goal is just to read 40 non-comic books this year (novels, anthologies, collections of poetry, plays - anything!). I keep a reading log and when you take out graphic novels and comic strip collections from the equation I never seem to get to 40 per-year.

I dont get the boogeyman thing either. I would never read anything else than real books because thats natural to me. I know in my life time real books will always be an option. E-book is good for people that want them.

I mean yesterday i bought two CDs, a Billy Holliday Cd and Johnny Cash Cd. Even though more than 50% of the sales are Itunes,mp3 doesnt mean the old way of Cds is dead today. Not that e-book is as cutting edge and easy as mp3 songs,Ipod listening. You dont touch when you listen and collect cds like you do with paperback books.

    Johnathan Franzen warns against E-Books.

My opinion? eff it, it's all about choice. I will read books in prints, and I am happy with readers spending money on e-books.

When I become famous, expect me to revise my views

I've read Slaughterhouse 5 and Timequake, both like 10 years ago. Always told myself I wanted to read more of him, now is the time I think.

Gave this a look over. I used to feel the same way until I got a Kindle for Christmas. Now I think Franzen just sounds sort of like a tool. E-readers are not evil devices that will ruin society. In fact they may get more people to read. People who would buy his books, and make him more money!
I really think what scares some authors more is that some people will come out self publishing, making really good stuff for cheap, and these folks who consider themselves kings of the s^!t heap are going to be left out in the cold.

My 2012 goals come from the fact that as I look at the laden bookshelves in my office that the ration of books on them I have read versus those I have not read is tilted way too far towards the unread, and as I haunt used book stores adding more to the unread pile the ratio gets worse. So my goal for the year is to pick any two shelves in the library and make sure I have read everything on them. I am not going to reread the ones I already read recently, but the ones on the shelves I haven't read. The first shelf I picked was an urban fantasy shelf that had Butcher's Dresden Files, Mile Carey's Felix Castor books, and a couple of series by Christopher Golden. I've already read all the Dresden books and most of the Castor books, so I am starting up with the last Castor book-The Naming of the Beast and will then move on to some of the Golden stuff. Not sure what shelf #2 will bring just yet.

I read "Welcome to the Monkeyhouse" last year, and it was so fantastic. Just one great short story after another. I'm definitely going to tackle one of his novels this year.

I got a Nook for Christmas. I generally like it - I can get ebooks from the library for free, which is probably the biggest bonus. Between library stuff and public domain, there's plenty to keep me occupied. I don't see myself giving up physical books, though. It's not that hard to find used copies of books for a lot cheaper than digital books cost. Guess I'm going to have toes dipped in both worlds for the forseeable future.

I'm aiming to read 25 books this year. That's not a hard goal to meet, and I supplement it with a lot of other, non-novel reading, but I'd be really disappointed if I didn't manage at least that much.

I'm a reeeeeally slow reader. It's one of the reasons I love the graphic medium so much. However, I also love normal books and I have set a goal of just actually reading some of the pile of books I've been buying and buying and buying lately! To start with:

    - The Grand Design Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow
    - Alan Wake Rick Burroughs
    - If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him! Sheldon B. Kopp
    - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Philip K. Dick
Currently enjoying: Batman, Batwoman, Dial H, Detective Comics, American Vampire, Saga, The Manhattan Projects, Locke and Key, Atomic Robo, East of West...

My only goal so far is to get ahold of and read all of Bret Easton Ellis's books this year: The Rules of Attraction, Glamorama, The Informers, Lunar Park, and Imperial Bedrooms. I do feel like I need to find a random book as well at the library or something.
