Default Silver Star and Captain Victory via Dynamite Comics (The General Thread)

So, what did everyone think of these books so far? Personally, I've really dug them and I like that lesser named talent is working on these books because it kind of gives the titles a "anything can happen" kind of feel, and it shows off the talents of up and comers within the industry. I really love the art in both books, I know a lot of people have been complaining about the art in both titles, but I've enjoyed them (especially Silver Star) and they kind of remind me of mid 90's artwork for whatever reason. All in all the stories have been very fun, Silver Star stands out as my favorite between the two books because I just love the direction it seems to be going, kudos to the creative teams on both books though and I look forward to following these titles for years to come.

Haven't read the two #2s yet, but both of the initial issues were excellent. Part of me thinks they should have done things ala the valiant universe and Unity, though, espescially with the long hiatus in the main book right now. Since these two books and Dragonsbane all take place prior to Genensis, it would have been cool to put them out, then expand the world with the Genesis event. I am guessing they wanted to test the waters first and use the Kirby name to sell the books, but they could have used Kirbys name either way and both Silver Star and Victory have some name recognition already.

Just re-read Silver Star #1 and #2 again just for kicks, I'm looking forward to see where the story goes in issue #3 and I'm really hoping to seem some of these side characters develop as the series progresses. Man, following these Genesis books has been one of the funnest experiences I've had in comics since the Crossgen days, I just seriously hope it lasts......

I need to turn my computer off and read these. I have all the Kirbyverse stuff but I'm way behind on reading it. The stuff I have read was good, though.

Just read issue two of Silver Star. Still not crazy about the art, but the story is good. Same goes for Captain Victory. I would really like to see some better art to enhance the experience.

Yeah, it seems the main gripe with the solo books has been the quality of the art, which I've personally kind of enjoyed but I can see where some would make the point. I think by letting lesser known writers/artists work on these books can help to establish new talent in the industry, but it can also hurt sales due to people passing on the books because a big name isn't involved.

Honestly, I don't even look at the name of the artist anymore.dynamite has done a great job with young writers, just not sure why they cant do the same with young artists. I don't mind the captain victory art as much, though I think it is inconsistent at times. Silver Stars art though really distracts me. The proportions are always distorted and the faces all show the same expression. Where are the artists that worked on the Project Superpowers books? All of those books had solid art?

Actually, lots of the artists who worked on the Project Superpowers books were torn apart by the readers for multiple reasons just like people are doing the the Genesis artists. On the official Dynamite forums I remember reading that people felt that the art was "muddy" and "generic", though some enjoyed the art I'd say it was a 50/50 mixed bag, I've read similar comments here before I joined as a member. But yeah, you can't please everyone and you either like it or you don't, for me.....it's not bad at all.

Yeah, to each his own. I thought Black Terror and Devil were drawn well. Didn't read Masquerade, so I can't comment on that. I usually only comment on the art if I find it detracts from the experience. In Silver Stars case, for me, it does. I can see the muddy comments...maybe Dynamite needs a better coloring department?

I read Dragonsbane again this morning and I'm really digging what they're doing with it so far, my only complaint is that they kind of overdo the way that they speak to the point to where it seems kind of forced. The art in this book was great, the story was really enjoyable, and I'd say it was probably the most complete package of the 3 solo Genesis books so far, I highly recommend it!

Ditto. This was my favorite of the three spinoffs so far. The art was really impressive, and I enjoyed the story as well. Good stuff.

Just read Dragonsbane today, and I agree. This and Captain Victory are my favorites so far. Really excited to see where these booksgo. I hope they stick around for a while.

I just re-read Captain Victory again for the 4th time and one of my favorite scenes has to be from the first issue where Victory tells Batteron that he plans to send his grandfather to hell, it was such an epic scene and really showed us how vengeful the good Captain can be. Also, I loved the internal struggle in the second issue between Tarin and Victory, seeing them come to a moral clash was really quite cool and the writing behind it all was done exceptionally well.

Issue three is out today, although I will wait a few weeks for the digital price to drop before buying it. The preview shows a new artist, and I have to say it is an improvement. Looking forward to continuing the story.

I hope they continue to shine the spotlight on the various Rangers like they did with Tarin in issue two (loved the title "Tarin's Tale" by the way!). It's a great way to familiarize the reader with all the players right away while moving the story along.
